  • Patent number: 4852740
Abstract: Holders for flat objects such as computer disks which can provide pages of a book which carries such objects, instruction for their use and etc. Each page is made of a single sheet of foldable material, preferably spunbonded olefin (such material being available from DuPont under their tradename "Tyvek"). The sheets are cut into the shape of rectangular center panels with bottom and side flaps extended therefrom; the side flaps extending from opposite side edges of the center panel and being off-set from each other. Since a single sheet is used it may be printed with visible indicia (e.g., the name of the manufacturer of and the computer program on the disks), prior to cutting, by conventional printing techniques in one pass through the press. The cut sheets (blanks) can then be manipulated in envelope manufacturing equipment which scores, applies adhesive lines and folds the flaps to provide a plurality of partially overlapping pockets, disposed one above the other.

  • Patent number: 4779791
Abstract: A portfolio particularly adapted for use in the taking and retaining of hand writen notes comprises front and back cover boards adhered in spaced relation to the inside of a cover sheet of woven decorative fabric that forms a combined gusset and hinge by which the portfolio can be opened to lie flat. A liner sheet covering the inner surfaces of the cover boards is adhered thereto along its outer marginal portion, but it is not attached to the central area of the back cover board in order to form therewith a pocket to which access is provided by a slit in the liner sheet. An envelope designed to receive and retain sheets of writing paper is attached to the portfolio by insertion of its flap portion in the slit in the liner sheet, and the front wall of this envelope is in turn provided with a slit adjacent one end thereof which is proportioned to receive the paperboard back of a note or sketch pad, and thereby to mount such a pad on the envelope as a further component of the portfolio.

  • Patent number: 4731142
Abstract: The subject invention provides a method of making a pocket folder having a plurality of page inserts from a pre-printed web. A first fold line is provided along a first transverse line which divides the web into integral folder and insert sections. A second fold line is provided along a second transverse line adjacent an end of the folder section opposite the insert section, thereby forming a folder pocket member. A third fold line formed along the longitudinal midline of the folder portion divides the folder portion into first and second cover sheets. The insert section is cut inside of and parallel to opposite longitudinal edges of the web to form lateral marginal portions. The insert portion is also cut adjacent to and parallel with the longitudinal center line to form a pair of insert pages separated by a medial marginal portion. The lateral and medial portions are removed and the insert pages are folded along the first transverse fold line to superpose the folder cover sheets.

  • Patent number: 4730727
Abstract: A binder made of a rigid covering case and containing an assemblage of envelopes constitutes a diskette file. The diskette file provides a secure receptacle suitable for storage of 10, 20, or any number of magnetic diskettes used on microcomputers. When the binder is open, an accordion-like assemblage of envelopes structure expands to form a fan of the diskettes stored in the envelopes. The top of each diskette in the fan of the open binder is revealed and a single diskette can be located and retrieved without having to manipulate any of the other diskettes in the file. The assemblage of envelopes is bound to the covering case. The case consists of 5 coupled and hinged sections; front, bottom, back, top and flap. The flap folds over and attaches to the front panel. When such a binder is closed, the book-like diskette file may contain a large number of diskettes in a well-protected, organized filing pattern suitable for cataloguing and storage in library book-shelf fashion.

Elongated slots are provided in the front and back panels, generally parallel to the folded edge of the carrier, and display envelopes may be partially inserted through each said slot, and carried by the carrier for display purposes. In the method for displaying envelopes, a loose-leaf binder and a plurality of such carriers are provided, and each display envelope is partially inserted into selected slots of the carrier whereby at least a portion of each envelope is visible for display purposes, and with each envelope being releasably disposed in the carrier.

Abstract: A multi-pocket pad (folder) is formed from a one-piece paperboard blank. The folder includes a cover panel, two body panels and two pad retention panels which are adhered in a face-to-face relationship. Flap members, connected by fold lines on the opposite ends of the body panels, form a plurality of pockets. A retention panel has a structure, such as a slit or holes, to hold a notebook. An elongated panel (spline) may be used to hold a pen and the cover panel may be removably joined to a pad retention panel to close the folder.

Abstract: A multiple pocket, expandable envelope is formed by folding panels of a planar, unitary blank relative to each other. The envelope has a front, a back, and a pair of intermediate panels hingedly coupled to each other along parallel end edges. A front divider panel is disposed between the front panel and one of the intermediate panels while a back divider panel is disposed between the back panel and the other of the intermediate panels to define four pockets within the envelope. The back panel is hingedly coupled to the back divider panel along a fold line at one side thereof. The one intermediate panel is hingedly coupled to the front divider panel along a fold line at one side thereof. A plurality of side panels hingedly couple the front panel to the front divider panel and the other intermediate panel to the back divider panel.

  • Patent number: 4343430
Abstract: An envelope assembly for manufacture as a prestuffed, continuous form comprises two outer panels, a partition panel and an envelope flap on one of the panels. The panels having matching, glued together pin hole feed strips along sides, between which the flap extends, and line perforations for the removal of the pin hole feed strips. The partition panel is sealed along all four sides to one of the outer panels to provide a sealed, prestuffable compartment which may be opened by tear line perforations adjacent one pin hole feed strip, and has a glue line on the other side so that the compartment on the other side remains sealed when the sealed, prestuffable compartment is opened. The envelope assembly may be used as a certified mail assembly in which case the sealed compartment is used to contain a proof-of-delivery panel, for return to the mailer, which is removed with a portion of an outer panel for retention by the Post Office, while the remainder is handed to the addressee.

  • Patent number: 4317538
Abstract: A multiple compartment envelope is provided with each envelope adapted to carry identical information on their respective exteriors with a single writing. The envelopes are joined along their longitudinal edges and perforated along the joint for easy separation. Each envelope includes a flap with an appropriate adhesive for sealing purposes. After the user has deposited the desired contents into each envelope, one of the flaps may be folded to close the first envelope. This envelope is then folded along the perforated joint so that it lies above the other envelope. The flap of the other envelope is provided with a backing of carbon paper. This flap is folded over so that it contacts the back of the first envelope. Information written upon the flap will accordingly be carried upon both envelopes with a single writing. The envelopes may then be unfolded and sealed with the flaps. They are then separated along the perforation. An integral blank for forming the multiple compartment envelope is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4313558
Abstract: A multiple pocket, expandable envelope, and a blank and method of forming the envelope, involve the use of a planar, unitary blank. The envelope has front and back panels and front and back divider panels therebetween to define three pockets within the envelope. The front panel is hingedly coupled to the front divider panel along a fold line at one side thereof. The back panel is hingedly coupled to the back divider panel along a fold line at one side thereof. A plurality of side panels hingedly couple the front panel to the front divider panel at the other side of the front panel, the back panel to the back divider at the other side of the back panel, and the front and back divider panels to each other. This permits the multiple pocket, expandable envelope to be formed from a planar, unitary blank in a simple and inexpensive one-pass straight line operation on conventional folding and gluing apparatus.
