Stress Relief Patents (Class 229/920)
  • Patent number: 4819861
Abstract: A paper container for containing liquid such as milk and juice is disclosed. The container is formed of a thick paper provided thereon with vertical and horizontal folding lines intersecting each other at right angles. The intersecting portions of the folding lines are such formed as to be different in configurations for a predetermined length. In this way, splits and pin holes can be prevented from occurring when the thick paper is folded along the grooves to build up a container.

  • Patent number: 4795086
Abstract: A parallelepipedal gable-topped bulk-material container made out of a multilayer plastic laminate and with its head sealed by a ridged seam, leaving two superimposed triangular folding tabs at the ends of the seam, whereby each tab is wrapped out and around a straight buckling edge on each side of the container and the container material has longitudinal and transverse or sloping scores for the edges of the body and floor or gable edges. To maintain the integrity of a ridged seam when manufacturing and sealing thick-walled containers in a filling machine and hence eliminate ridged-seam fracture, the container has at least one auxiliary score for each vertical body score in the vicinity of the gable and out of alignment with the body score.

  • Patent number: 4792085
Abstract: Disclosed are various diagonal incisions adjacent the hinge line of a clamshell container. These diagonal incisions allow opening of the clamshell container without permanent buckling. Also disclosed are ribs formed above, below, and parallel to, the hinge line of a clamshell container.

  • Patent number: 4763833
Abstract: A tote carrier formed from a generally planar blank of sheet material cut and scored to comprise a rectangular bottom panel, a pair of side wall panels and a pair of end wall panels hingedly connected to the bottom panel, and a pair of end foldover panels hingedly connected to the ends of each side wall panel. The side and end wall panels are folded upwardly to define an open top receptacle region. The end foldover panels are folded inwardly and may be attached either to the inner or outer surfaces of the end wall panels to secure the carrier in an upright position. Striplike portions along the top of each side wall panel, and an adjacent striplike portion of each end foldover panel, are separated from the corresponding side wall or end foldover panel by a cut line to define a pair of handle straps, while each end of the handle straps remain connected to the adjoining end foldover panels.

  • Patent number: 4714164
Abstract: A carton blank and method for forming a liquid-tight tapered container having a denesting tab. When the blank is folded and sealed to form an open-topped tapered container, a destacking tab is formed as a result of abhesion. The tab facilitates destacking a single container from a stack of like containers prior to their filling and final closure.

  • Patent number: 4712728
Abstract: A carton contains a flap on the outer top panel and a flap on the inner top panel, the free edge of the outer top panel flap overlying the inner top panel flap. When a user presses down on the outer top panel flap, it pivots out of the way to allow the user's fingers to fold the inner top panel flap under the top panel structure to provide a handle for lifting the carton. When the fingers are withdrawn, the outer top panel flap is biased upwardly by its arcuate foldable connection to close the handle opening. If the inner top panel flap is contacted by the outer top panel flap as it pivots upwardly, the outer top panel flap pushes the inner top panel flap up to a substantially closed position. Score lines extending from the ends of the foldable connections of the inner and outer top panel flaps to the corners of the carton distribute the lifting stresses to the side panels of the carton.

  • Patent number: 4702408
Abstract: A bulk bin is formed of a unitary sheet of corrugated paperboard and includes foldably joined side, end, and corner panels forming an open top structure of polygonal cross sectional configuration and having bottom structure comprising a pair of primary bottom closure panels foldably joined respectively to the bottom edges of the side panels and having abutting inner edges, a bottom closure flap foldably joined to the bottom edge of each of the corner panels and disposed in flat face contacting relation with one of the primary bottom closure panels, a pair of bottom locking panels foldably joined respectively to the bottom edges of the end panels and folded into flat face contacting relation with the bottom closure flaps and with the primary bottom closure panels and interlocked with the primary bottom closure panels to secure the bottom closure flaps between the primary bottom closure panels and the bottom locking panels.

  • Patent number: 4694954
Abstract: An article of manufacture comprising a compact disc and convertible package therefor is disclosed. The device comprises a blank divided into four panel members by cruciform pairs of parallel intersecting fold lines. A flap portion is formed adjacent a surface of at least one of said panels and the compact disc is received between the flap and panel. In the merchandizing mode, a stiffener member is interposed between the leaves formed by double height panels, the components being held together by an encompassing film which is preferably transparent. The device may be converted to the storage mode by removing the film, discarding the stiffener member, and folding the panels about the cruciform fold lines to provide a structure in which the disc is encompassed between four thicknesses of material.

  • Patent number: 4676428
Abstract: A one-piece corrugated fiberboard blank and the triple-end container assembled therefrom wherein the blank includes a rectangular bottom panel with a side panel hingedly attached to each of the two opposite sides thereof. Hingedly attached to the remaining two opposite sides of the bottom panel are first, exterior end panels, each having a hand-hold slot formed therein. Second, intermediate end panels sized in width to extend approximately half way across the first end panel in the assembled container are hingedly attached to the opposite ends of each side panel. Each intermediate end panel has a cutout complementary to the hand-hold slot in the first end panel and includes an extension hingedly attached thereto that folds back upon the intermediate end panel to form the third, innermost end panel.
