Patent number: 4678117Abstract: A system working in conjunction with a regulator having a diaphragm for controlling gas pressure within a gas system, wherein there is provided a spring system to control the diaphragm of the regulator, maintaining the regulator at a constant pressure upon adjustment of the spring. There is further provided an actuator mechanism, operating in conjunction with a sensing means comprising a closed cylindrical container containing gas, such as, butane, propane, or the like where upon expansion of the gas due to ambient temperature would activate the actuator mechanism for reducing the spring pressure on the diaphragm, and thus the gas pressure within the system. Likewise, where there is to be a reduction in ambient temperature, the concommitant contraction of a gas within the sensing means, allows increased pressure on the diaphragm for providing increased gas pressure within the regulator.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1986Date of Patent: July 7, 1987Inventors: Wesley J. Trahan, Albert B. Montandon

Patent number: 4456169Abstract: A steady state thermostat is disclosed which employs a magnetic flux coupling technique to obtain a greater stability in its operation, resulting in a significant reduction in fuel costs. The thermostat includes a temperature sensor operated arm and a temperature setting arm pivotally mounted on a common base pivot. A first magnetic field source is mounted on the first end of the sensor arm coincident with a first axis and a second magnetic field source is mounted on the second end of the sensor arm coincident with a second axis. A first magnetic field sensor is mounted on the first end of the setting arm coincident with the first axis and adapted for proximate positioning with respect to the first magnetic field source when the selected orientation of the setting arm corresponds to the desired ambient temperature being higher in magnitude than the existing ambient temperature.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1983Date of Patent: June 26, 1984Inventor: Clifford M. Martin

Patent number: 4354633Abstract: A manual main shutoff valve for a gas burner combination control of the type having a casing which includes a housing plate in overlying relation to a partition plate. An axially movable valve member is spring biased to a closed position seated on a valve seat portion of the partition plate. A rotary valve actuator carried by the housing plate includes a cam member in engagement with the cam follower of an operating lever which is pivotally mounted in the casing and operatively connected to the valve member for moving the valve member to an open position in response to rotation of the valve actuator to an "ON" position.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1981Date of Patent: October 19, 1982Assignee: Essex Group, Inc.Inventors: Jesse H. Turner, Elmer E. Wallace

Patent number: 4319714Abstract: A device for setting the closed position of a valve of the type comprising a lever having a ramp acting on a thrust member of a slidable assembly. Adjustment is effected by adjustment means comprising a cam device interposed between the thrust member and the ramp on the lever. The cam device is disposed eccentrically of its journals and it is displaced angularly from the exterior by inserting a screwdriver or the like through a hole in the body. Ratchet teeth are provided on the cam device and cooperate with pawls for retaining the desired position of the cam device when it is attained.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1980Date of Patent: March 16, 1982Assignee: Societe Anonyme Francaise Du FerodoInventors: Jean-Louis Moulene, Jean-Francois Bouvot

Patent number: 4086987Abstract: A viscous fluid clutch including a clutch plate member rotatably mounted in the clutch housing, and serving as a rotatable wall dividing the chamber within the housing into an annular working chamber adjacent one face thereof and an annular reservoir chamber adjacent the other face thereof, with inlet and outlet ports formed in the clutch plate and a radially extending, resilient, flexible valve member mounted on the reservoir chamber face thereof for controlling the flow of fluid medium from the reservoir chamber to the working chamber through the inlet port, in response to the action of a temperature-responsive power unit mounted on the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1976Date of Patent: May 2, 1978Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Michael W. Riley, Lane S. Duncan, Carl E. Bochmann

Patent number: 4071190Abstract: A thermostatically controlled damper is provided for an attic vent pipe having a single piece pivoted damper plate moved from substantially a horizontal to substantially a vertical position by a movable mechanism contacting the plate at an acute angle to both the open and closed plate positions.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1976Date of Patent: January 31, 1978Inventor: Edward B. Ford, Jr.

Patent number: 4000848Abstract: The invention relates to a regulating drive for a thermostatically controlled feed member, especially the shaft of a heating valve, having a pivotable, spring-loaded actuating lever carrying a control element, preferably an expansion-material element, the operating member of the said control element being stationary and the mobile element being supported on the actuating lever, characterized in that the control element is mounted pivotably on the actuating lever.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1975Date of Patent: January 4, 1977Inventors: Bernhard W. Braukmann, Rudolf Vollmer

Patent number: 3970246Abstract: A multiple zone forced air type air conditioning system is disclosed in which the amount of atmospheric air admitted to the system is governed according to sensed temperature conditions of air being circulated through the warmest zone. An atmospheric air sensing control unit responds to atmospheric air temperature and moisture levels to minimize introduction of atmospheric air to the system, notwithstanding the temperature of air being circulated through the warmest zone, when atmospheric air temperature is within a predetermined temperature range but contains more than a predetermined amount of moisture, and when atmospheric air temperatures are higher than the temperature range.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1975Date of Patent: July 20, 1976Assignee: Ranco IncorporatedInventors: Russell G. Attridge, Jr., Andrew Kulick

Patent number: 3944135Abstract: A condition responsive valve construction having a housing provided with a valve seat. A pair of metallic balls are secured together in abutting relation and are movable toward and away from the valve seat so that one of the balls acts to open and close the valve seat. A lever is movably mounted in the housing and acts between the balls to cause movement thereof upon certain movement of the lever caused by a condition responsive means sensing different conditions. Spring means are provided for tending to hold the balls in the valve seat closed position thereof and in a certain valve seat open position thereof so that the lever can have lost motion travel between the balls for creating a differential in the conditions required to open and close the valve seat.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1974Date of Patent: March 16, 1976Assignee: Robertshaw Controls CompanyInventor: Fred Kalinovski
