A tubular stream of pressurized air is projected outwardly through the air passageway and surrounds a stream of liquid discharged through an opening in the nozzle tip. Adjustment of the tubular air pattern provides for various liquid spray patterns and varying amounts of atomization of the discharged liquid. The discharge member may alternatively be mounted on a spray gun without the air adjustment member mounted thereon.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1987Date of Patent: February 13, 1990Inventor: John W. Patent number: 4660774Abstract: In a fluid spray gun, the fluid nozzle is threadedly attached to the gun body and is covered by an air cap and threaded retaining ring. A latching mechanism is placed in the gun body and removably latches the toothed nozzle in place to prevent rotation due to friction from the air cap and retaining ring. The latch is held in place by the air cap and/or retaining ring but is easily disengaged when the air cap and retaining ring are removed.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: GRACO INC.Inventors: Kui-Chiu Kwok, Robert J. Patent number: 4531675Abstract: An improved spray nozzle for use with air atomizable liquids wherein the spray pattern created by the atomizing nozzle may be adjusted from a circular pattern to a flat pattern or alternatively to an open oval, the open end facing in preselected directions, the adjustments being capable of occuring during the continuous operation of the nozzle. A pattern adjusting plate may be movably aligned with the pattern adjusting nozzles thereby creating the appropriate combination of pattern adjusting nozzles to create the desired pattern.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1983Date of Patent: July 30, 1985Assignee: AccuSpray, Inc.Inventor: Jack E. Patent number: 4324361Abstract: An atomizer has a channel through which material to be atomized, preferably comprising a transport gas and a powder, liquid or granular material, flows in a first direction. At or slightly downstream from the downstream end of the channel, preferably an atomizer gas is injected into the stream to be atomized, the injection occurring at an angle to the first direction. Preferably the atomizer gas is injected to impart a rotary motion to the stream. At the downstream end of the channel is a funnel-shaped outlet whose surface is so shaped that the stream can adhere to the interior surface of the outlet under the Coanda effect, producing an atomized cloud of transversely uniform density. A gas jacket may be used to control the shape of the cloud. The flow of both the atomizer gas and the gas forming the gas jacket is preferably adjustable in speed and direction.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1979Date of Patent: April 13, 1982Assignee: GEMA AG ApparatebauInventors: Kurt Moos, Karl Buschor

Patent number: 4308996Abstract: The invention contemplates a selectively operative flame-shaping feature in application to a powder-spraying gas torch, whereby directional jets of compressed-air or other pressure fluid may be discharged into angularly spaced off-axis regions of a developing flame spray, with selective rotational adjustment of the angular orientation of jet discharge with respect to the axis of flame-spray discharge.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1980Date of Patent: January 5, 1982Assignee: Eutectic CorporationInventor: Anthony J. Patent number: 4171096Abstract: A nozzle for a spray gun for depositing liquid on a work surface including a body having a channel communicating with a dispensing tip for the liquid, an assembly for attaching the body to the spray gun such that the liquid supplied from the spray gun is introduced into the channel of the body, a passage for the transmittal of pressurized air from the spray gun to a position proximate the dispensing tip, and an air cap circumposed about the dispensing tip having a plurality of orifices therein communicating with the passage for directing pressurized air jets axially of the air cap, whereby the liquid emitted from the dispensing tip is entrained within the confines of the pressurized air jets and deposited on the work surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1977Date of Patent: October 16, 1979Assignee: John WelshInventors: John Welsh, John V.
