Abstract: A cannula for providing respiratory therapy to a patient includes a first nasal prong having a proximal end attached to a cannula body and a distal end for insertion into a nare of the patient. The first nasal prong defines a lumen for a flow of breathing gas from a source of breathing gas to the nare of the patient, and the first nasal prong has a variable geometry such that a cross-sectional area of the lumen at the distal end of the first nasal prong varies with a flow rate of the breathing gas. Varying the cross-sectional area of the first nasal prong lumen with the flow rate of the breathing gas enables the first nasal prong to maintain a high velocity flow to the nare for effective flushing of the patient's airway.

Abstract: A dry papercrete mix is formed by preparing a wet pulp of fiber material such as newsprint and sharp sand by mixing sand, fiber material and water in a batch or continuous mixer, drying the pulp to a moisture content below that which will cause a reaction with Portland cement and adding additional sands and/or pumice and Portland cement. The resulting dry, granular mix can then be handled stored and used in the manner which is conventional for concrete. The dry papercrete mix can also be applied by pouring the dry papercrete mix into a desired volume such as a form in a dry state and injecting water into the dry papercrete mix until the mix is sufficiently wetted without a requirement for mixing in the manner common for concrete. Structural modules and a technique for joining them into a structure are particularly appropriate to the use of dry application papercrete.

  • Patent number: 8985483
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and device to control a spray pattern produced from a spraying device consisting of a plurality of individual jets that form the resulting spray pattern. The trajectory of each individual jet is controlled by orienting the nozzle-like feature that produces each individual jet, thereby producing a variety of spray patterns. This is accomplished utilizing the flexible properties of elastomeric or rubber-like materials. In addition to allowing for deformation or movement to remove possible obstructions to the fluid flow, this flexibility property also permits for specific, controlled movements, whereby it is possible to control the trajectory of the fluid issuing from the device. These rubber-like materials can include specific features that allow the material to be deformed in a controlled fashion so as to predictably control the trajectory of the streams issuing from the individual nozzles.

The spraying direction of a liquid droplet after the liquid is atomized can be controlled by modifying the shape of the exit end of the nozzle aperture.

  • Patent number: 7213775
Abstract: The invention describes an injector device specifically designed for the injection of an alternative fuel such as LPG, methane, hydrogen or others, in an internal combustion engine. In the injector device, the shutter ensuring sealing in closing condition is separated with respect to the metering means with gauged hole, which perform the function of metering fuel during injection, and it is arranged downstream from said metering means. The shutter is controlled by a solenoid, which is again arranged on the downstream side with respect to said metering means.

  • Patent number: 7159800
Abstract: Metering components of a fuel injector that allow spray targeting and distribution of fuel to be configured using non-angled or straight orifice having an axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the fuel metering components. Metering orifices are located about the longitudinal axis and defining a first virtual circle greater than a second virtual or bolt circle defined by a projection of the sealing surface onto the metering disc so that all of the metering orifices are disposed outside the second virtual or bolt circle within one quadrant of the circle. A channel is formed between the seat orifice and the metering disc that allows the fuel injector to generate a spray pattern along the longitudinal axis that forms a flow area on a virtual plane transverse to the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A micro-droplet generator, comprising a chamber, enclosed by a casing, a spraying plate, having a plurality of spraying holes, a piezoelectric plate, a signal connector, and a storage tank. The piezoelectric plate is mounted inside the chamber, having a fixed end fastened on the casing and a free end performing a bending movement. The input port issues signals that cause the bending movement of the piezoelectric plate. The chamber and the storage tank contain liquid, with a constant difference of liquid levels in the chamber and the storage tank being maintained, so that negative pressure in the chamber is automatically regulated.

  • Patent number: 7124964
Abstract: A flexible, self-adjusting flow nozzle is provided, optimally configured for agricultural uses. The nozzle flexes automatically in response to changes in fluid pressure, thereby maintaining an optimal droplet size and spray area for a variety of flow rates. The self-adjusting characteristic of the nozzle allows for the creation of a fully or semi-automatic spray system. The fully automatic system uses a GPS receiver to compare actual geographic data against a predetermined flow plan for automatically making adjustments to flow rate in order to accommodate both speed changes and varying crop needs. The semi-automatic system uses a manually controlled flow rate but utilizes the self-adjusting capabilities of the spray nozzle.
