  • Patent number: 7147173
Abstract: A nozzle for mixing and delivering two or more components and method of use thereof. One variation provides a nozzle that injects a first component, such as fuel, into a flow plume for a second component, such as nitrous oxide, for use with combustion engines. The nozzle receives two or more separate flows of components (e.g., gases and/or liquids), one of which is pressurized so as to be outputtable from the nozzle as a plume. The plume is directed so as to encompass an output extension for the other component near the plume edge, thereby enhancing mixture of the components. In addition, the plume produces a low pressure draw of the second component from the output extension, the low pressure draw varying with plume velocity, in turn varying with delivery pressure of the first component. The plume flow of the second component also atomizes the first component, further enhancing mixing.

The spray dispenser includes a reservoir for storing a fluid product. An aerosol or manually pressurized dispensing system preferably a hand held dispensing system may be used. Liquid is delivered from the reservoir under pressure to a delivery passageway. A nozzle having two or more outlets to the atmosphere is mounted to the delivery passageway to provide colliding streams of liquid. Baffles are provided to disrupt the flow of liquid in the stream prior to the collision of the streams to provide an improved spray pattern.

Abstract: A device for producing a stream of aerated water, the device having a first opening for producing a first jet of water and a second opening for producing a second jet of water directed into the first jet of water so as to form a single turbulent stream of water in which air is entrained. The device being constructed by forming two relatively angled surfaces on at least one component, the surfaces having respective aligned grooves, forming two oppositely angled surfaces on at least one other component and mounting the two relatively angled surfaces against the two oppositely angled surfaces such that the grooves, together with the oppositely angled surfaces define passages for the formation of jets of water.

  • Patent number: 6027050
Abstract: An injector, in particular for injecting fuel directly into a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, having a fuel flow path from a fuel intake to a spray orifice, a plurality of fuel channels being arranged in the flow path in front of the spray orifice, their cross section, given a certain fuel pressure, determining each quantity of fuel spray-discharged per unit of time. To influence the fuel distribution in a spray-discharged fuel cloud and, in particular, to attain a selected strand-like quality of the fuel cloud, provision is made that at least one part of the fuel channels is aligned such that the fuel jets issuing from them are spray-discharged directly through the spray orifice when the valve is open.

Abstract: Techniques for melting and forming aerosols from solid CIPC are disclosed. Solid CIPC in block form is convenient to ship and to handle. Solid CIPC in block form appears to have a consistency of solid paraffin wax. Solid CIPC is melted by controlled techniques to form a substantially pure liquid stream of CIPC. The molten or liquid stream of CIPC is converted to an aerosol of CIPC either by a pressurized, hot air stream or by a combustion gas stream.

  • Patent number: 5921471
Abstract: A head for generating and spraying foam is provided. The head is particularly useful in a fire extinguisher. The head includes a nozzle for spraying foam in a praying direction, at least two conduits for supplying a fluid, and a boss. A. wall at the outlet end of each conduit is oriented approximately perpendicular to the spraying direction. The conduits each emerge into a base of the nozzle via openings. A fluid is supplied to the conduits. During travel of the fluid to the nozzle, the fluid encounters a double deflection. The first deflection is from the wall within the conduit towards the boss. The second deflection is from the boss towards the wall of the nozzle. This double deflection path of travel causes the fluid to become completely emulsified with ambient air to create a large volume of high quality spraying foam.

  • Patent number: 5901908
Abstract: A fluid spray nozzle that mixes a pressurized gaseous propellant and paint composition prior to being applied to a workpiece. The nozzle includes an upstream section for receiving the pressurized gaseous propellant. The nozzle directs the gaseous propellant and the fluid composition into a recirculation cavity. The gaseous propellant and fluid composition are received in a downstream section after mixing in the recirculation cavity. The recirculation cavity has lobes on opposite sides of a flow path defined in a region in the recirculation cavity between an inlet opening and the recirculation cavity. The recirculation cavity is formed by silicon micromachining the upstream section, fluid injection section, recirculation cavity and downstream section. The gaseous propellant may be accelerated to supersonic speeds prior to entering the recirculation cavity.

  • Patent number: 5845846
Abstract: The spraying nozzle of this invention establishes supersonic gas jets directed towards an edge on two liquid flow surfaces formed by that edge. High frequency aerodynamic oscillations are generated in front of the edge. Liquid is supplied to the liquid flow surfaces. The gas flow spreads liquid on a liquid flow surface into a thin film which flows along the liquid flow surface towards the edge. The thin film flow becomes thinner, separates from the edge, and is sprayed as liquid droplets. The liquid droplets are sucked into the gas jet convergence point where they are further fragmented into extremely fine particles by shock waves of the gas jets. The ultra-fine particles are rapidly swept away from the edge by the gas flow.
