Patent number: 4685619Abstract: A spreader 10, cooperating with a dump body 11 having a conventional tailgate 20, includes a conveyor 15 extending through an opening 12 in the lower region of tailgate 20 to rest on bottom 13 of body 11 and extend aft of tailgate 20. A hopper 30 underneath a rear end of conveyor 15 receives rearward flowing material that it guides downward to a spinner 50 arranged below hopper 30. The conveyor 15, hopper 30, and spinner 50 are all removable from tailgate 20 and dump body 11 so that the truck can be used conventionally as a dump truck. When used as a spreader 10 with tailgate 20 closed, conveyor 15 conveys material from body 11 aft through the opening in tailgate 20 to spinner 50 at the rear end of conveyor 15. By tilting dump body 11 with tailgate 20 closed, a partial load can be shifted aft against tailgate 20 where it overlies conveyor 15 and can then be conveyed to spinner 50 after dump body 11 is leveled.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1985Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignees: Phyllis J. Patent number: 4588113Abstract: A combined drop and broadcast spreader for granular material is mountable on the implement of a front end loader. The spreader includes a hopper containing a plurality of discharge openings in the bottom. A rotatable impeller in the bottom forces the granular material from the openings during drop spreadings. A rotatable spreader means is coupled to the rear wall of the hopper for discharging granular material in an arc-like pattern. The rear of the hopper includes a door for selectively supplying granular material from the hopper to the spreader means for broadcast spreading.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1984Date of Patent: May 13, 1986Inventor: Raymond H. Patent number: 4568028Abstract: The invention relates to improvements in a dual purpose vehicle having a dump body which can be hinged at either the front or rear end thereof so that it may be tipped rearwardly for use as a dump truck or tipped forwardly for use as a spreader. The hinge means have been improved to provide a bearing for receiving the weight of the dump body and the floor of the body is provided with an inlay to allow salt/sand mixtures to flow at a 26.degree. angle of forward tilt.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1983Date of Patent: February 4, 1986Assignee: Compro LimitedInventors: Jan Verseef, Amiya K. Patent number: 4511284Abstract: A truck frame for road repair work includes a tank containing heated asphalt, a repair materials hopper, a front discharge chute and a drive worm conveyor within the hopper for moving repair aggregate from the hopper to the chute for deposit in a pavement pothole or the like. The discharge end of the chute is manually moveable from side to side and front to back and carries an outlet for the heated asphalt to coat the aggregate emerging from the chute with the asphalt, for spreading the asphalt coated aggregate into the pavement defect being repaired. The chute has a first air inlet attached thereto remote from the discharge in and through which air under pressure is applied to the chute to cause a swirling motion of the aggregate as it descends through the chute toward the pavement, and a second air inlet at the opposite end from the outlet for receiving air under pressure to clean a pothole before the repair material is applied thereto.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1983Date of Patent: April 16, 1985Inventor: Carl L. Patent number: 4491275Abstract: A dispenser is disclosed detachably secured to the front or rear of a vehicle to enable spreading of road salt or other granular material. In a first embodiment the dispenser is detachably mounted to the upper edge of a snow plow blade. A slidable damper plate regulates the flow of material from a hopper onto a multi-speed spreader rotor, which causes an even dispersion of the material by directing it outwardly and against the forward surface of the snow plow blade. The damper plate is positioned by a cable system causing sliding of the plate by tilting of the snow plow blade, with a visual indicator enabling viewing of the plate position within the vehicle cab.In a second embodiment, the dispenser is detachably mounted to the rear bumper of a motor vehicle and the damper plate is actuated by means of an electro-mechanical actuator. A deflector shield is positioned across the rear of the vehicle to deflect the dispensed material directed thereagainst by the spreader rotor.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1982Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Inventor: Herbert Holsworth

Patent number: 4485939Abstract: An agricultural planter (12) is provided with a hopper (37 or 137) which is adapted to receive a transverse partition wall (71 or 171) for dividing seed and chemical compartments (72, 73 or 205, 207). The chemical compartment (73 or 207) can be further divided into cells (74, 76 or 174', 176') by a longitudinal partition wall (77 or 177) whereby seed and two chemicals, such as a herbicide and an insecticide, can be dispensed from a single hopper (37 or 137) during a planting operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1982Date of Patent: December 4, 1984Assignee: Allis-Chalmers Corp.Inventors: Alexander T. Patent number: 4483486Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for treating lawns with both granular and liquid treatment materials, at the selection of the operator. The apparatus includes a compact, hand-operated cart having a storage compartment for accommodating a bin or bins of granular treatment materials and a tank of liquid treatment material. A rotatable spreader belt receives and meters the granular material which is spread by a rotatable spinner plate as the cart is driven. Inlet and outlet hoses received within the tank of liquid material cooperate with a pumping disc rotatably mounted on the cart to provide continuous circulation of the liquid material through the hoses. A spray nozzle coupled to the inlet hose by a valve controlled by the operator, enables the operator to selectively spray the liquid material on a surface to be treated. The spray nozzle is mounted in telescoping relationship to the cart to enable the operator to select and adjust the range which the liquid is sprayed.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1981Date of Patent: November 20, 1984Assignee: Lawn Doctor, Inc.Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: RE33835Abstract: A hydraulic system is provided including a hydraulic pump which is continuously coupled with the engine of a utility such as a dump truck utilized for snow-ice removal. When hydraulic implements employed on the truck are not actuated, the pump operates in a cavitation mode. During this cavitation mode of operation, there is no ingress of air through seals or the like to a venting of the gear pump chamber essentially to tank or atmosphere. A poppet valve is actuated in conjunction with periodic use of hydraulic elements on the truck to actuate the pump to an operational or pressurized mode. A key actuated calibrating system is employed to calibrate snow-ice removal components in a secure manner. Calibration is provided in conjunction with EEPROM memory.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1990Date of Patent: March 3, 1992Assignee: H.Y.O., Inc.Inventors: James A. Kime, Gregory R. McMenamin
