  • Patent number: 5082186
Abstract: A pair of straw and chaff spreaders for a combine are operable to distribute straw and chaff in an even and wide spread pattern on the ground behind the combine. Each spreader has an upright shaft drivably coupled to upper and lower dishes. Flexible arms on the upper disk distribute straw. Rigid channel shaped arms on the lower disk propels chaff and small particulate materials in the pattern. The turning channel shaped arms also generate an air stream which distributes straw and chaff in the wide spread pattern.

  • Patent number: 5046664
Abstract: A spreader for granular and/or powdery material such as fertilizer comprises a hopper having two delivery parts. Distribution members are provided under the delivery parts for broadcasting material fed to them from the hopper. The distribution members are mounted on a carrier rigidly supported by the hopper. This construction results in a fixed position of the distribution member with respect to the delivery parts, regardless of deflections which may occur as a result of the weight of material in the hopper. The distribution members may be driven by a mechanical transmission from a power take-off shaft of a tractor, or by a hydraulic motor. The mechanical transmission includes a horizontal shaft connected to two vertical shafts for rotating the distribution members via bevel gears and is contained in a hollow tube with gear boxes on either end which maintain the axes and levels of the vertical shafts and distribution members in fixed relative positions.

  • Patent number: 5021030
Abstract: A straw spreader for the rear straw discharge of a combine comprises a frame mounted on ground wheels together with a pair of hitch arms which extend forwardly from the frame on either side of the rear portion of the combine for attachment to the combine frame structure. The separate frame can thus move up and down relative to the rear of the combine and maintains a pair of spreader spinners on the frame at a predetermined height relative to the ground. Guide surfaces collect the material from the chopper at the rear of the combine and direct it onto the spinners for a spreading action. The low height of the spreading action reduces dust emission and enhances spreading consistency. An accumulator can be provided between the spreader and the discharge in the rear of the combine to allow the amount of straw spread to be varied relative to the amount collected at any particular point on the field.

  • Patent number: 5018669
Abstract: A spreader for spreading granular and/or powdery materials having a hopper and rotary distribution members with ejection blades on plates located below the hopper. The areas covered by the two distribution members can be adjusted so that they substantially coincide with one another. In some embodiments, the orientation of the ejection blades on the plates can be adjusted. Material flows to the distribution members through feeding means that include outlet openings and ports that can be in register with the openings. Also, displacers or closing members for affecting this flow can be positioned near the outlets at the lower portion of the hopper. A transmission, including change speed gears, can be connected through endless flexible members, i.e., ropes or belts to the shafts mounting the distribution members.

  • Patent number: 5004163
Abstract: A device for spreading granular and/or powdery material comprising a hopper for material to be supported and at least two distributing members rotated in opposite directions about vertical rotary axes, material feeding means provided between the hopper and distributing members for feeding material from the hopper to the distributing members so that each of the two distributing members receives the material eccentrically with respect to its rotary axis; the distributing members having such shape and being drivable in a manner, and the feeding means being constructed and disposed whereby in operation material is supplied to the distributing members so that each spreads material across a sector which substantially coincides with the sector across which the other distributing member spreads material. With such a device the material is advantageously spread uniformly and different materials may be spread in the same manner without the need for readjusting various members of the device.

  • Patent number: 4923431
Abstract: A chaff spreader for attachment to a combine includes a pair of spaced circular mounting rings, each having a fan rotatably mounted therein. An elongated drive shaft extends between the fans and is connected to a belt and pulled drive system for rotating the fans. A semi-cylindrical shroud is secured between the mounting rings and partially surrounds the fans. An open side wall portion of the shroud is directed forwardly toward the sieve of the combine for inducting chaff through the fans and laterally outwardly from the combine. The belt and pulley drive system is connected to a pulley on a straw chopper section of the combine. In a second embodiment, a generator driven light is mounted on the combine, adjacent the fans to serve as a warning to indicate fan rotation. The shaft spreader collects chaff through a suction effect created by the fans and spreads chaff evenly across the width of the cut, eliminating the toxic effect to seedlings growing through a concentration of chaff residue.

The distributor can be driven in rotation or reciprocated about an axis which is inclined rearwardly from top to bottom at different speeds by means of a change-speed means. Frame members are orientated to prevent the least obstruction to material ejected past them by the distributor. A downwardly inclined deflector prevents material from impinging against a vehicle to which the spreader is hitched. The constructional features of the spreader contribute to an even distribution of material about the axis, regardless of the type of material being spread.
