  • Patent number: 4125241
Abstract: An improved safety system for raising, lowering and supporting in an elevated or lowered position, a weighted article from an overhead support. The system includes a link chain passing over a safety pulling member, the link chain having one end permanently connected to the weighted article and the other end permanently connected to an attachment means positioned within reach of a person so that the person may pull the link chain downwardly to raise the weighted article to a desired elevation out of range of the person. The link chain has an improved locking member thereon which may be detachably attached to and locked to the attachment means. The locking member, once installed on the link chain at the proper position, is tamper proof and substantially break proof. The weighted article may be a clothes basket, or other receptacle, or any article in which it is desired to selectively suspend overhead out of reach of a person and then lower within range of a person.

  • Patent number: 4077348
Abstract: A chain stopper for round bar iron chain, such as ship's anchor chain, includes spaced, parallel guideways for the horizontal links of the chain and incorporating therebetween a groove for guiding the vertical links of the chain, and having a pair of pawl section receiving recesses formed therein. At least one clamping lever is mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis and includes a pair of pawl sections positioned to receive a vertical link therebetween and to engage a selected horizontal link, the pawl sections engaging the recesses of the guideways to securely lock the chain.

  • Patent number: 4057982
Abstract: An adjustment control device for a chain. The control device includes a body member having a first orifice for slidably receiving the chain and a second orifice extending crosswise of the first orifice for receiving a shackle of a lock. After a chain has been inserted into the body member, the shackle of the lock is inserted into the second orifice between two alternate links of the chain without passing through the link connecting those alternate links to lock the chain in position.

  • Patent number: 4043275
Abstract: To facilitate adjusting the length of a heavy cargo hold-down chain on a transport vehicle and for positively and safely locking the chain after adjustment, a pair of identical slotted plates are employed in reverse overlapping relationship and are detachably secured by releasable fastener means with chain links captured in their slots. The cooperating plate elements are formed to transmit chain tension on a straight linear axis with the releasable fastener means subjected to shearing stresses rather than to bending stresses.

  • Patent number: 4028780
Abstract: The disclosed line releasing clamp receives a line in a saddle portion of the clamp, the line including a stop lug that is caught against the end of the saddle to resist the tension of the line. The saddle in turn is received in, and pivotally attached to, a clip. Upon the tension in the line exceeding a predetermined amount, the saddle slips free of the clip and pivots sufficiently to permit the stop lug to slip from the saddle, releasing the line.

  • Patent number: 4020630
Abstract: A device for adjusting the length of a link chain comprising a shackle or yoke in which the space between the arms is relatively wide except for a narrow portion at the closed end of the shackle. A length of chain extends through the space between the arms and is capable of moving lengthwise when in the relatively wide portion of the space. The relatively narrow portion of the space is wide enough to receive a link of the chain but not wide enough to permit the chain to move in a lengthwise direction. A pivoted keeper is adapted to project into the relatively wide portion of the space to retain the chain in the narrow portion and thereby prevent it from moving lengthwise.
