Patent number: 5383259Abstract: An apparatus having a collet piece in a casing for attaching to a shock cord (or rubber or rubber composite cord or strap) anywhere along the length of the cord. The substantial change in width of a circular or flat shock cord as it is stretched is used to make the width of the cord narrow. When the cord is narrow it freely moves through a passage in the collet piece unit. When the cord is released to its fully relaxed width, the cord's width is wider than the greatest width of the passage through the collet piece and casing unit. The compression on the cord creates a frictional holding force between the collet piece, casing unit, and the shock cord. A tapered opening is provided in the casing so that when the cord is pulled in one direction while the casing is held, the frictional force causes the collet piece to slide along the tapered opening thereby reducing the width of the passage through the collet piece and casing unit to grip and hold the shock cord in the passage.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1992Date of Patent: January 24, 1995Inventor: David B. McIntire

Patent number: 4263954Abstract: A cable type tire chain has traction sleeves on the cross members located only adjacent to the shoulders of the tire. The center portion of the cross members adjacent to the middle of the tire tread is free of traction sleeves. The traction sleeves are spaced away from the middle of the tire tread by either a coil spring through which the cross member cable extends or by beads attached to the cable. The cross members are attached directly to the side members of the tire chain by flat profile hooks formed from rectangular strips of metal, so that the cross members lie close to the sidewalls of the tire. The invention provides improved traction and reduced wear of both the tire and the tire chain.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Burns Bros., Inc.Inventor: James M. Patent number: 4224722Abstract: A swivel hook assembly for use primarily for attaching musical instruments, such as a drum or a pair of drums or other percussion instruments, to the torso of a person, so that the person has both hands free to grasp drumsticks or mallets to play the instruments, particularly when marching. The entire assembly is preferably formed from stamped metal parts and is provided with a slot forming member through which a carrying strap or harness may pass, which slot forming member is provided with a pair of openings at its extremities for the reception of hooks usually attached to straps surrounding the torso of the person playing the instruments. A strap extending across at least one of the shoulders of the person passes or is looped through the slot to properly position the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1978Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Assignee: Ludwig IndustriesInventors: Daniel S. Patent number: 4047824Abstract: A connection between a metal wire hook and a cord of synthetic fiber material particularly suitable for connecting nets of crossing cords into frames for chairs, sofas, beds and similar furniture. The metal wire has a bent portion with a free end. The bent portion of the metal wire spans an angle in excess of 180.degree. and has a pair of shanks which define a clearance space therebetween. The cord extends through this clearance space and the portion of the cord in the clearance space is squeezed and has therefore a reduced cross-section. The hooked portion of the metal wire and the squeezed portion of the cord are preferably cast into a sheathing of thermoplastic material.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1976Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Inventors: Manfred Brokmann, Kurt Sanders, Dieter Sanders, Hermann Westhoff

Patent number: 4024608Abstract: A connector consisting of a single elongated element such as a metal wire or plastic member formed in a closed shape with end loops joined by generally straight and generally parallel sides. A sleeve member is removably affixed to the parallel sides. One of the end loops is dimensioned to thread through a carrying lug on an article and the other loop is dimensioned for attachment to a hook connected to a strap or carrying harness.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1976Date of Patent: May 24, 1977Inventor: Robert A. Patent number: 4003538Abstract: An article holding device consisting of a layered structure having a resilient core layer of relatively substantial thickness deformable under pressure for complete contact with a supporting surface, a holding member carried by said core layer, a thin non-stretchable layer at each side of said core layer rendering said core layer relatively inflexible, one of said thin layers having an outer adhesive surface whereby the load carried by said device is spread throughout the full extent thereof and said device is adapted to have its several layers separable removable for removal of the device from a supporting surface without marring or damaging such surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1975Date of Patent: January 18, 1977Inventor: Bruce J.
