  • Patent number: 4969923
Abstract: A circumferential safety latch clamp for securing a pair of pipe members together operated by a lever actuator wherein a lever is pivotally mounted upon one end of the clamp band positionable between a latch position and an open position having portions releasably engagable with an anchor mounted on the other end to draw the band ends toward each other. A retainer assembly limits movement of the lever in the opening direction to a safety release position whereby the lever portions maintain engagement with the anchor limiting displacement of the band ends away from each other allowing partial expansion of the clamp band.

  • Patent number: 4965914
Abstract: An overcenter clamp comprises a flexible band having a hinge end and a hooked end. The hooked end is adapted to grasp a margin of a first member. The overcenter clamp further comprises a lever arm hingedly connected to the hinge end. The lever arm has a handle and a pivot link. The pivot link has an end adapted for insertion into a socket in a second member. This enables the first and second members to be clamped together by grasping the margin with the hooked end, inserting the pivot link into the socket, and rotating the handle away from the band to a point wherein the band is tensioned and bears upon the second member. The overcenter clamp includes a retainer connected to the band adjacent the hinge end. The retainer is engageable with the lever arm to resist rotation of the lever arm with respect to the band when the lever arm is in an open position wherein the angle between the lever arm and band is sufficient so that, when the hooked end grasps the margin, the pivot link is away from the socket.

  • Patent number: 4939822
Abstract: A fastening device is manufactured of a strip of sheet material and comprises a flexible tongue capable of being looped around an element to be fastened and a holding part. The tongue has a hook-shaped free end and an end opposite to the hook-shaped free end, and the holding part projects at an angle from the opposite tongue end and is bendable towards the tongue along a folding line adjacent the opposite tongue end. The holding part is integral with the tongue and has a hook-up edge spaced from the tongue end and arranged to be engaged by the hook-shaped free end when the flexible tongue is looped around the element to be fastened, and it is operable as a lever upon bending the holding part towards the tongue along the folding line for tightening and closing the fastening device when the tongue is looped around the element to be fastened and the hook-up edge of the holding part has been engaged by the hook-shaped free end of the tongue.

  • Patent number: 4905950
Abstract: A mounting assembly for fire extinguishers which includes a bracket shaped to define a substantially V-shaped trough. A flexible strap is adapted to be wrapped tautly about the fire extinguisher and thereby hold it tightly in the bracket's trough. The strap includes a bail which cooperates with a pivotally mounted latch member for locking the strap against the extinguisher. The strap also includes an aperture which is adapted to be interlockingly attached to a hook structure provided on the bracket. This arrangement permits the strap to be quickly and easily removed from or attached to the bracket without the use of tools. Due to the bracket's substantially two-point engagement with the extinguisher, and the easy release and attachment of the flexible strap, the mounting assembly may be easily adapted to hold fire extinguishers of various sizes by the easily performed exchange of the flexible strap.

  • Patent number: 4767090
Abstract: Simple, durable tripods for instruments such as those employed by surveyors, cameras, telescopes, laser-based measuring devices, etc. These tripods feature a tripod head which is a single piece of material and pivotable legs with a one-piece foot and a side-by-side or triangular array of hollow posts which provides strength and rigidity at a low weight. The tripod components are fabricated principally from colorfast, impact resistant, synthetic polymers which are: dimensionally stable under varying ambient temperatures; impact resistant; resistant to chemical attack and ultraviolet degradation; and, in the case of components which move relative to each other, self-lubricating. The tripod legs may or may not be extensible; in either case the tension between each tripod leg and the tripod head is independently adjustable. Stability may be promoted by rolling bearings which are located at the upper ends of the tripod legs and are seated on complementary bearing surfaces in the tripod head.

  • Patent number: 4643460
Abstract: A concrete pumping pipe coupling operates at nominal pressures of 2,000 psi and momentary peaks in excess of 3,000 psi. A two-piece hinged coupling forms a cylindrical enclosure encircling adjacent pipe ends. A two-piece latch releasably interconnects the ends of the two coupling sections. The latch includes a lever pivotally mounted to a link which is pivotally connected to the one coupling section. The lever pivots on a cam member connected to the other coupling section. The link includes a bolt threaded into an elongated nut. The threaded connection is for varying the length of the link. The elongated nut has an annular inner groove with a stop wall at each end. A spring-loaded limit pin is slidably mounted in a blind hole in the bolt and projects into the recess. The stop walls in the nut limits the movement of the bolt from the nut and thereby the extension of the link.

  • Patent number: 4639979
Abstract: A collar that fits on the bar of a barbell to prevent weights from sliding off the bar. Two semi-circular sections of the collar are hinged together at one end of the sections to permit closure of the sections about the bar and a toggle linkage is mounted on the other ends of the section to hold the collar closed about the bar. Neoprene pads are affixed to the inner peripheries of the sections to grip the bar and prevent movement of weights thereon when the collar is mounted on the bar. The collar can be mounted on the bar or removed therefrom without moving the collar over the end of the bar so that weights can be placed on the bar while the collar is in place and subsequently secured by moving the collar and a weight can be removed from the bar by moving the collar to a position in which the weight is between the collar and the end of the bar prior to moving the weight off the end of the bar.
