  • Patent number: 6158094
Abstract: A mechanical clamp used to secure hoses includes an elongated band. The band surrounds a central region and has a sequence of slots along its length. An adjustment screw has a hexagonal head that rotates about a longitudinal axis and has a thread that extends into the slots. Rotation of the screw adjusts the area of the central region. The head of the screw allows a driver to transfer torque to the head of the screw at an angle from the axis of rotation. The head is either curved or angled to allow a driver to efficiently engage the head of the screw during rotation when placed at an angle to the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6000104
Abstract: A clip for clamping an article, such as a hose, includes an annular clip band and a plurality of annular insert bands. Each of the insert bands has a first end section and a second end section. The end sections extend in the circumferential direction and overlap one another. One of the insert bands selectively surrounds a radial inside surface of the clip band. Each of the insert bands has a resistance to a relative displacement occurring in the circumferential direction of their mutually overlapping end sections. The resistances for each of the insert bands differs in such a manner that, when a predetermined clamping force is exerted on the clip band in the circumferential direction, a different predetermined radial clamping force on the clamped article results with the use of each respective insert band.

Abstract: An improved hose clamp is described with an improved clamp insertion feature that enhances the insertion of the clamp band into the screw housing. The improved hose clamp comprises a screw housing having a ramp extending out from the housing wall, a rotatable screw mounted within the screw housing and having a tip or end piece. The clamp band has a slit that extends in the circumferential direction. The slit divides the band into a first edge section and a second edge section. One of the two edge sections includes a spring device (e.g., a corrugation), which creates a spring force in the circumferential direction of the hose clamp over an entire operating temperature range. Thus, the hose clamp sealingly locks a hose in place on a pipe, regardless of any thermally caused expansion or contraction of the hose material.

  • Patent number: 5257439
Abstract: A Quick Release Adjustable Dental Band Clamp is intended to rigidly fix orthodontic attachments to a tooth. There are two major advantages to this invention. First, the band clamp can be compressed to a near-size fit by finger pressure, thereby, reducing operator time with the hand tool. Second, the clamp provides a quick release of tension, enabling fast removal. The clamp is a flexible metal strip with two free ends. One end contains a permanently fixed joining mechanism which is the heart of the invention. The other end is designed to be pulled by a joining mechanism into a created holes interior. The joining mechanism has two main operative parts: a worm and a locking pin. The worm draws the band material tightly and is governed by the locking pin, which is either engaged or disengaged with worm. When the locking pin is engaged with the worm only tightening is permitted. Loosening is allowed when the locking pin is disengaged.

The structural strut has a pair of longitudinal flanges which project inwardly. Complimental composite thermoplastic support bands are provided which have a natural curvature for supporting a pipe or duct when the bands are engaged. The bands have flanges on their top portion which engage the flanges of the structural strut when the top portion of the bands are placed within the channel of the strut. The top portion of the bands provides easy insertion and removal of the bands from the strut channel manually, either by inserting and turning to fit in the lock position, or in close clearance areas the head can be compressed to provide snap-in placement into the strut. The bands are adjusted by a bolt in a housing on the end of one band and matching slots on the end of the other band.

  • Patent number: 4638531
Abstract: An improved hose clamp of the kind comprising a tightening band which is bent to annular shape and which has end portions one of which is provided with transverse grooves. In the latter engage the threads of a screw worm which is rotatably journalled in a sleeve enclosing the screw worm but axially non-slidable therein. Said sleeve is formed with a space allowing the threaded band end portion to be moved out of the sleeve upon rotation therein of the screw worm. The opposite band end portion which is attached to the sleeve is elastic in its lengthwise direction and encloses a pressure strap which is bent to annular shape with its end portions overlapping. This pressure strap is arranged to form a guide means to the screw worm sleeve and to the tightening band between said sleeve and said band and an enclosed article. The tightening band describes an arcuate line in the plane of the external face of the pressure strap along the major portion of the circumference of the latter.

  • Patent number: 4637100
Abstract: A hose clamping device has a steel clamp band adapted to be tightened around an elastic hose in a ring-like form such that its opposite ends overlap each other. A tightening mechanism is provided on a portion of the band near the underlying end thereof and adapted to pull or push the overlying end, thereby tightening or loosening the band on the hose. A stopper is provided on a portion of the band ahead of the overlying end and is adapted to be contacted by the overlying end, so as to stop the advance of the same. The stopper is constituted by a tab-like portion cut out from a portion of the band and raised in such a manner that the upper surface thereof faces the advance of the overlying end, so as to be pressed down by the overlying end when the latter is pulled by the tightening means. Any excessive tightening by the tightening mechanism only causes the stopper to bend towards the cut out by the pressure applied by the overlying end of the band.

  • Patent number: 4523352
Abstract: A hose clip which can be tightened without a screw has an elongated band with a first end section which is formed with a closed slot for threading of the second end section therethrough. The end portion of the first end section has a pallet which engages one of a series of external teeth on the second end section to hold the band against expansion when the band surrounds and is tightened around an elastic hose. The end portion of the first end section extends radially outwardly and abuts against a back support which is an integral part of the first end section and is formed by looping the first end section radially outwardly adjacent to its end portion. The provision of the back support on the first end section enhances the versatility of the hose clip by enabling it to properly clamp smaller- or larger-diameter hoses without affecting the ability of the end portion of the first end section to remain in proper engagement with a selected tooth of the second end section.
