Resilient Metal Type Patents (Class 24/293)
  • Patent number: 4911971
Abstract: The invention features, either separately or in combination, a mounting member and an elongated strip of resilient material which strip is secured in and partially surrounds the mounting member, where the resilient strip member has a semi-cylindrical body with a pair of circumferentially facing edge portions. The resilient strip also includes a pair of oppositely disposed, radially-inwardly extending latch members, each extending longitudinally of the latch member and located between one of the edge portions and a point away from the mid-line of the semi-cylindrical body. The mounting member includes a web portion having a pair of oppositely disposed web-latch extensions extending across a chord of the semi-cylindrical body, substantially parallel to a tangent to the circumference of the semi-cylindrical body at its mid-line, and at least one leg member extending from the web portion away from the semi-cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 4860409
Abstract: A molding retention clip assembly has a molded plastic base having a planar bottom surface adapted to rest upon the painted surface of the vehicle body and a keyhole slot adapted to fit over a head stud welded to the vehicle body. The headed stud retains the base on the body but permits rotation of the base. A stamped metal spring clip has a base wall overlying the plastic base and attached thereto. First and second retaining clips are integral with the base wall and positioned in spaced apart relation on opposite sides of the keyhole slot of the plastic base. Installation of the molding into the first and second clips causes the clip assembly to rotate so that the first and second clips obtain effective grip of the molding to retain the molding on the vehicle body and the molding in turn retains the clip assembly against rotation.

  • Patent number: 4786094
Abstract: A clip mounting structure is provided which is attachable to a vehicle body without use of fixtures. This is done by initially providing the mounting structure with spacer tabs. The spacer tabs are positioned with respect to an available reference location, such as another previously mounted molding or panel. The tabs are break-away structures and are removed after the mounting structure is secured in place. The clip mounting structure is then used to secure a molding in place.

  • Patent number: 4656807
Abstract: A decorative strip detachably secured at the support flange of a motor vehicle includes two essentially parallelly extending support sections of which one abuts at the bottom side of the support flange. Detent members are provided at a retaining clamp fastened at a flange bolt which engage form-lockingly and force-lockingly into one of several detent receiving elements of the support sections arranged one behind the other, whereby the apertures are preferably provided at the support section opposite the support flange. A decorative strip is created by this arrangement which with a secure fastening is adjustable relative to the body as well as adapted to be installed and disassembled in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 4630338
Abstract: A one-piece resilient fastener or molding clip for retaining trim, molding or applique strips, parts, panels and other decorative items in bridging position over a gap between two spaced members is disclosed. Such a clip, which is particularly useful for attaching objects such as trim strips in automobile interiors, is attached through a suitably-shaped aperture in a base or support, particularly a plastic base panel, disposed in the gap, and has a pair of flexing wings or legs extending upwardly and outwardly from the end of the clip opposite the end to which the decorative item being retained is attached. These flexing wings or legs, designed to prevent them from passing completely through the base or support, permit variation take up between the decorative item being retained and the base or support as well as repeated assemblies and disassemblies of the clip to the base or support, with minimum insertion force and adequate removal effort, without destroying the clip or damaging the base or support.

  • Patent number: 4402118
Abstract: A generally "U" or "V" shaped clip type fastener adapted to secure a projection on one part in an opening or aperture in another part. The fastener has a lead portion for insertion into the opening with locking tabs for attachment to the projection and a trailing locking portion which passes over the projection and has oppositely disposed locking shoulder abutting the sides of the opening to lock the projection into the opening. In this arrangement, the clip can be inserted onto the projection with the locking tabs retaining the clip on the projection. The part with the projection can then be secured to the part with the opening by merely inserting the clip into the opening and forcing the parts together to "snap fit" the clip into the opening.
