Publication number: 20110239415Abstract: A continuous, progressive, flexible closure formed with rows of opposed keys whose engagement and disengagement is normal to the plane of closure. The closure may include a plurality of first keys, a plurality of second keys, and a slider configured to engage and disengage opposed keys, e.g., by joining and separating protrusions on one set of keys with openings on the second set of keys. Engagement of opposed pairs may be independent of engagement of neighboring pairs, which may increase useful life of the closure. Additionally, first and second keys may have variable relative geometries which, when considered with alignment of skirts in the plane of closure, may allow closure to follow a bend or curve without generally changing the peripheral distance of the opposed rows.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2010Publication date: October 6, 2011Inventor: Carlo ZEZZA

Patent number: 7963007Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a high burst slider zipper which allows for bottom filling of reclosable packages, such as large bags, and further provides increased resistance to damage from the dropping or shock loading of the filled package. This is achieved by providing a peel seal or other frangible or separable connection between the zipper profiles, and by sealing a portion of one of the flanges to itself by a hard seal above the peel seal. This causes the external forces on a bag from bottom filling or shock loading to be directed toward the hard seal and further directed so as to cause a shear force against the peel seal, thereby increasing the resistance of the package to external forces.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2007Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: David J. When the combined slides are combined together, the respective portions of the coupling slides mate together to form the coupling slide, the coupling slide engaging or disengaging the first and second coupling seals so as to dock or separate the first and second flexible enclosures from one another.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2005Publication date: November 13, 2008Applicant: GEA NIRO GMBHInventors: Martin Koch, Ed Piepereit

Patent number: 7416338Abstract: A reclosable package comprises a slider-operated zipper wherein at least one of the zipper parts has a hinged flap to which a marginal portion of a panel of packaging film is joined. The hinged flap swings away from the rest of the zipper part in response to a pulling force tending to pull that zipper part away from the other zipper part. The flap is disposed between a base strip of the zipper part that it forms a part of and a sidewall of the slider. The slider is retained on the zipper by retaining ledges projecting from a distal end of a plow that pries open the zipper during slider travel in an opening direction.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2004Date of Patent: August 26, 2008Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Steven Ausnit

Publication number: 20080172846Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a slider zipper including first and second interlocking profiles with female and male interlocking elements. The female interlocking element is formed from two extending arms which are sufficiently spaced so as to receive the male interlocking element while maintaining an open space therebetween in order to accommodate powdered or granular products between the interlocking profiles. The first and second interlocking profiles further include complementary fulcrum elements to allow the slider walls to pivot the interlocking profiles into and out of engagement. The slider further includes interior surfaces which engage retaining shoulders of the interlocking profiles to displace the interlocking profiles with respect to one another.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2007Publication date: July 24, 2008Inventors: Glyn Russell, Ernesto Pitargue, Edward Babcock

Publication number: 20080110001Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a leakproof or leak-resistant slider zipper for reclosable packages or bags wherein the zipper profiles include upper flanges which are captured within horizontal channels of the slider. The horizontal channels are configured to be closer to each other at the closing end than at the opening end so as to urge the zipper profiles together at the closing end and apart at the opening end. The zipper profiles further include complementary interlocking elements as well as a lower bead and flap configuration wherein the flap remains urged against the bead in a leakproof or leak-resistant configuration throughout the entire length of the slider.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2006Publication date: May 15, 2008Inventor: Steven Ausnit

Patent number: 7313846Abstract: A flexible reclosable container including profiles which are locked and unlocked by a slider. One embodiment of the slider has a pair of feet which extend from one end of the slider to the other end and which resist pulling of the slider off of the profiles. Another embodiment of the slider has three spaced pairs of feet which resist removal of the slider from the profiles. The slider in one embodiment has an enlarged central portion which facilitates grasping the slider and is easy to manufacture by die casting.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2002Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Illinois Tool Works, Inc.Inventor: Robert C. Publication number: 20070292052Abstract: A fastener strip, such as would be used in a reclosable container, comprises a sealing member having a plurality of sealing portions configured to engage complementary sealing portions of a complementary fastener strip. At least one sealing portion comprises one or more finger members extending therefrom. The at least one finger member, by engaging a complementary sealing portion of a complementary fastener strip, provides an additional degree of sealing, particularly when the fastener strips are in a partially engaged condition. A slider comprises top and side walls and inwardly facing flanges, preferably at lower ends of the side walls. The inwardly facing flanges define a gap having dimensions such that the sealing members of the opposing fastener strips, and particularly the sealing portion having the at least one finger member and its complementary sealing portion, are urged together to provide an additional degree of sealing, yet not completely interlocking, engagement.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 14, 2006Publication date: December 20, 2007Inventors: Jonathan Hui, Mark Branson
