  • Patent number: 5119532
Abstract: A buckle apparatus comprises a buckle body into which a tongue plate is inserted, and a lock plate with which the tongue plate is engaged and locked. The buckle body is provided with an opening through which a portion of the lock plate is passed in a condition of the tongue plate locked to the lock plate, so that when a load larger than a predetermined value is applied in a direction of withdrawal of the tongue plate in such locked condition, at least a portion of the lock plate is moved in the tongue plate withdrawal direction. Such portion of the lock plate is provided with a projection which is adapted to be brought into engagement with an edge of the opening by the movement of such portion, thereby inhibiting the movement of the lock plate in a direction to release the tongue plate-locked condition. Therefore, even if a load larger than a predetermined value is applied to the tongue plate in the locked condition, the tongue plate cannot be disengaged from the buckle apparatus.

Abstract: A two-stage latch type safety belt buckle is provided with a first latch member directly engaged with a tang and a second latch member for preventing the tang from being disengaged from the first latch member. The second latch member is a two-layer structure, and the first latch member partly extends between the two layers. The second latch member is brought into engagement with the first latch member in a wall portion connecting the two layers together to thereby lock the first latch member in a position in which it is engaged with a tang.

  • Patent number: 4642858
Abstract: A buckle apparatus for use in a seatbelt system is arranged such that when a tongue plate is inserted into a buckle body, the tongue plate retaining portion of a lock plate pivotally supported on one side of the tongue plate insertion passage extends through an opening formed in the tongue plate and projects out to the other side of the insertion passage so as to engage with a subsidiary lock plate. Accordingly, the lock plate which prevents the tongue plate from being undesirably pulled out is supported by the buckle body on both sides of the tongue plate and therefore can bear a large load. To release the tongue plate, the subsidiary lock plate is pivoted so as to disengage from the lock plate, which requires only a reduced force.

Abstract: In a safety belt for a car or the like, a buckle is provided to receive a tongue releasably. The buckle includes a latch member engageable with the tongue, a U-shaped base defining an opening in the direction of insertion of the tongue and supporting the latch member turnably, and a bridge secured to the lower end of the base and having engagement portions which when the tongue is in a state kept in engagement with the latch member, are kept in engagement with the tongue at two points. Owing to this structure, the tongue can be firmly held without play and the buckle can withstand large forces and moments applied thereto by way of the tongue.

  • Patent number: 4624034
Abstract: A buckle apparatus for use in a seatbelt system is arranged such that when the tongue plate of the seatbelt is inserted into the buckle body, the pawl of a lock plate is inserted into an opening formed in the tongue plate. Since the projecting end of the pawl is separated from the corresponding opening formed in the buckle body, a relatively small force can release the tongue plate from the buckle apparatus. However, when the force applied to the tongue plate for pulling it out from the buckle apparatus increases, a lock plate holder is deformed by virtue of this force. In consequence, the pawl engages with the opening of the buckle body, and retaining wings provided on the side of the lock plate remote from the pawl also engage with the corresponding portions of the buckle body. Accordingly, the lock plate is supported by the buckle body at two portions on both sides of the portion thereof which engages with the tongue plate, so that the lock plate can bear a large tongue plate pulling out force.

Abstract: An end release type of buckle for safety belt harness in vehicles and a method of assembly wherein a channel shaped elongate chassis transversely supports a latch and a latch blocking element, the latter pivotal at one end and biased toward blocking the latch. A closure plate biased to follow insertion and removal of a buckle tongue is reciprocably mounted for longitudinal movement to the web of the chassis. A release slider is provided which reciprocates to remove the blocker against its bias and to depress or open the latch. A tubular case encloses and detentably assembles the chassis and operably guides the release slider while supporting the operating bias applying elements. A cup-like cover is pressed longitudinally over the case and is detentably located and secured to said case. When not in use the latch is held open by the closure plate. When a tongue is pressed into the buckle the closure plate retreats from blocking the entry slot and the latch obeys the bias to lock.

Abstract: In a buckle for a safety belt a pivotable locking bar (13-17) is arranged in relation to the push-in tongue (4) in such a way that the ejector force (11) or the belt force exerting a load on the tongue urges the locking bar out of engagement. To prevent this in the closing position, there is a pivoting lever (21) which can be pivoted as a result of actuation of a slide (27) so that the locking bar (13-17) and consequently the push-in tongue (4) are released. According to the invention, this releasing pivoting movement of the locking bar is assisted because an extension piece (30) is provided on the slide (27) and a projection (32) interacting therewith is provided on the locking bar (13-17), and by means of these, when the slide (27) is pressed in, an additional torque for pivoting the locking bar into the opened position is transmitted.
