Patent number: 6076240Abstract: A snap-fastener having a male member and a female member, respectively having a cap with a rivet shaft piercing through a sheet member and a male part or a female part. The rivet shaft is inserted into an insertion hole so that an inner edge of a hole of the sheet member is sandwiched to have a seal portion. The male part has an engaging projection projecting outwardly at an end of a cylindrical engaging portion. The female part has a resilient engaging member urged axially inwardly and placed outwardly in diameter direction with respect to the engaging portion. The resilient engaging member has at least a locking projection projecting inwardly in diameter direction. The locking projection engages with the engaging projection to lock it so as to restrict its axial movement at the time of engagement between the male part and the female part. In order to disengage this locking, an exclusive device is used for moving the locking projection of the resilient engaging member outwardly in diameter direction.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1998Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: YKK CorporationInventor: Bernd Henzler

Patent number: 6009601Abstract: A magnetic snap lock includes cooperating male and female members. The female member includes an attachment base unit and an attachment part or grommet which includes a tubular projection. The tubular projection permits the attachment of the grommet to the attachment base unit. The female member also includes an actuator assembly which can also be mounted on the attachment base unit. The male member includes a protruding member with a magnet which is insertable into an opening of the attachment part or grommet of the female member to provide for a releasable locking.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1997Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Inventor: Eli Kaufman

Patent number: 5987715Abstract: A magnetic closure device for personal effect carriers such as purses, pouches, day packs, and backpacks is provided. The invented closure device comprises a flap assembly affixed to a flap of the carrier and a receiving assembly affixed to the sidewall of the carrier. The receiving assembly is configured similar to the flap assembly, so that the receiving assembly mates with the flap assembly. The receiving assembly is provided with a projecting member configured to extend through the opening in the flap assembly, without projecting substantially beyond a cover plate thereof. The projecting member and opening coact as a guide to enable a user to locate the receiving assembly for quickly interconnecting the two assemblies. A magnet is retained in the receiving assembly for positively securing the flap assembly to the receiving assembly, to inhibit the device from inadvertently releasing.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Inventor: Trinh Cam Khon

Patent number: 5937487Abstract: A magnetic fastener is disclosed of the type which has particular utility for handbags. The magnetic fastener includes a manually releasable lock which acts in conjunction with the magnetic attraction between its respective members to maintain the fastener in its closed condition. A manually actuable slide is provided to release the locking engagement and permit opening of the magnetic fastener.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1998Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Inventor: Irving Bauer

Patent number: 5604960Abstract: A closure system for a garment of any type, also useful to join two garments, including cooperating magnet assemblies, interdimensionally fixed to opposing closure surfaces of the garment, that securely and removably join the closure surfaces by the attractive action of the magnets. The magnet assemblies are laminates, each laminate produced from a support layer to which is added an adhesive layer. One or more magnets are positioned on the adhesive layer to align and retain them in place. Finally, a cover layer is added over the one or more magnets, and shaped to the magnet(s) to form the laminate that is the magnet assembly. A garment is securely joined when a magnet assembly is aligned with a cooperating magnet assembly, that is, one magnetically opposable, and the magnets attract each other. A garment is opened when the magnet assemblies on the opposing closure surfaces are disengaged from each other by peelably disengaging them.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1995Date of Patent: February 25, 1997Inventor: Elaine M. Patent number: 5560089Abstract: The present invention relates to a fastener means comprising an attracting member A with a permanent magnet 1 and an attracted member B with a ferromagnetic element 110 to be attracted by the former member. To assure easy and stable attraction between the members A and B when they are respectively fixed to a pair of objects C and C' disposed in an intersecting relation, the members A and B include planes and e' that are parallel to each other when the members are attracted. Alternatively, the main attraction surfaces a' and/or b' of the members A and B include a plane d and/or d' within a virtual plane D that intersects the fixing surfaces of the objects, or the attracting member A and/or the attracted member B are fixed to the object with an inclination, so that the members A and B can be held stably attracted to each other without being subject to external force.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: Tarmo Co. Patent number: 5473799Abstract: A magnetic closure device is configured to allow for a reduction in the magnetic gap as well as for adding mechanical strength to a cover for enclosing the magnet supply and other associated parts on one of two separate elements. The magnetic closure device includes a first element and a second element which are magnetically and mechanically coupled together and may be detached. The first element A includes an annular member formed to have a thick wall and mounted around the cover. The annular member includes ornamentation at its surface. The annular member may be formed from brass or other nonmagnetic materials, including plastics.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1994Date of Patent: December 12, 1995Assignee: Application Art Laboratories Co., Ltd.Inventor: Yoshihiro Aoki
