    Abstract: A tool for tensioning a fence wire winds the fence wire around a wire tightening device that remains in the fence after the tool has been removed. The wire tightening device includes at least 3 wire engaging elements which are attached to a substantially rigid planar base. The device introduces tension by threading the wire around the wire engaging elements which takes up the slack therein. The tool manipulates the device by bringing it in to contact with the wire and rotating it around the wire. The tool then disengages from the device which becomes a permanent part of the fence.

    Abstract: A tenter clip is provided for gripping a web of thermoplastic film between the curved surface of a toggle arm and an anvil surface which is tapered at each of its ends. The surface configurations of the toggle arm and anvil define effective surfaces for gripping the film while allowing the film to stretch under these surfaces. Beads are formed at the edges of the web during stretching. These beads wedge into substantially V-shaped gripping regions defined by the toggle arm and anvil to assist in the stretching operation.

    Abstract: A tool for assisting a person to attach the fabric top of a utility or military vehicle, such as a JEEP, to the back of the vehicle body. The tool is an adjustable length flexible belt with a loop at its lower end. A rigid hook mmber is attached to the upper end of the belt. The hook member fits over the usual rear cross rod over which the fabric top passes from front-to-back and down to the back of the vehicle body. The combined length of the hook and belt is slightly less than the vertical distance of the rear cross rod on the vehicle down to the ground or other support surface on which the vehicle rests. A person using the tool pushes his foot down on the loop at the lower end of the belt, causing the belt to pull the cross rod down far enough to make it easy to attach snap fastener elements on the lower back end of the fabric top to complementary snap fastener elements on the back of the vehicle body.

    Abstract: A band-tensioning device is disclosed which includes an operating lever rotationally fast with an eccentric which is pivotable about a fixed axis. An angle lever is provided which is freely pivotable about the eccentric, and urgeable to rotate therewith by means of the operating lever. A lower portion of the angle lever has an abutment surface which can cooperate with the friction surface of a rotatable tensioning wheel to force a band to be tensioned against the rotating wheel. The pivoting of the eccentric relative to the angle lever displaces it transversely to the abutment surface, so that the surfaces become separated and thus disengaged without having to overcome the high wedging forces associated with the tensioned band between the surfaces. The levers may be coupled by means other than the eccentric, e.g., via an articulated lever, provided the angle lever is selectively movable pivotally or transversely to the abutment surface.

    Abstract: A V-belt for coupling at least two pulleys together, the pulleys having a substantially V-shaped groove, the belt being manually installable without moving or adjusting the distance between the pulleys. The particular usage of the present invention is for temporary (emergency) or permanent installation of a "fan" belt found on (but not limited to) conventional vehicles of the V-belt type. The device allows anyone, upon the destruction of a fan belt, to readily and quickly install a temporary pulley belt manually, without tools. For a permanent installation, a small implement may be used with the present device for increased tensioning of the belt in its proper position. The improved belt includes first and second free ends (male and female respectively that are firmly connected together by longitudinally interlocking a plurality of laterally disposed, inclined teeth located near the male end with lateral rows of inclined grooves located in an interlock passage in the female end.

    Abstract: A clasping device comprised of a frame and a manipulatable tongue pivotally connected to the frame for movement between released and fastened positions and having first, second and third cross pins and a barrier plate. A flexible strap is threaded through the tongue in such a manner as to extend, when the tongue is in the released position, through a clearance between the barrier plate and the second cross pin, past around and in contact with the second cross pin thereby forming a loop around the second cross pin, and back past beneath and in contact with the first cross pin, so that when the strap is drawn taut as the tongue is pivoted towards the fastened position portions of the strap one on each side of the strap loop are urged in overlapping relation against the first cross pin to provide substantial frictional resistance to the relative movement of the strap loop after the strap is tightened with the tongue held in the fastened position.
