Abstract: An hydraulic loading assembly for ball and ring coal pulverizers has a plurality of compression assemblies connected to a common hydraulic controller for exerting equal pressure simultaneously on each of the compression assemblies. The compression assemblies each have a hydraulic cylinder and piston located above and connected to a non-threaded rod which is in turn located above and connected to a compression spring exerting force on the top grinding ring of the pulverizer.

Abstract: A comminution device in which a crushing mass having an outer surface of helical configuration is mounted on a rotary support which rolls the crushing mass around the interior surface of a crushing chamber. The helical surface provides improved comminution. The rotary support is a flexible wire rope which permits limited radial movement of the crushing mass, allowing centrifugal force to aid the comminution. The crushing mass is mounted at about the midpoint of the wire rope, allowing gyroscopic forces to further assist the comminution.
Abstract: A control system for the hydraulic loading of the grinding rolls of a pulverizing mill, including a feedback servo system designed to incorporate a spring rate characteristic into the hydraulic loading of the grinding rolls.
