Abstract: An aqueous pigment dispersion is produced by ultrafinely dispersing a pigment dispersion mixture, which has been obtained by mixing at least a pigment and a dispersant in an aqueous medium, with microbeads having diameters of not smaller than 0.02 mm but smaller than 0.2 mm. A color composition for a color filter is produced by dispersing a mixture of a pigment, a dispersant, a resin varnish and a solvent with the microbeads in a mill.

Abstract: A precipitated silica having a d50-value of from 150 to 2000 nm, a d90-value of from 500 to 7000 nm, a silanol group density of from 2.5 to 8 OH/nm2, and a modified tapped density of less than or equal to 70 g/l is useful for thickening and providing thixotropy in liquid systems and shows superior efficiency at thickening and creating thixotropy compared to existing grades of precipitated silica. The precipitated silica functions best as a thixotrope in non-polar or intermediate polar liquid systems such as unsaturated polyester (UPE) resin systems.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system of processing and removing hydrocarbon sludge from a tank wherein the hydrocarbon sludges are the product of gravity settling in the bottom of the tank to form a sludge consisting of inorganic and organic materials not readily flowable or pumpable for removal in the found state and where a process is used to selectively separate, grind, disperse and suspend these materials with a mechanical classifier system, and where flow agents may be metered to effect a slurry stream directed thru a nozzle system towards the sludge in the tank and by reducing the surface tension and mechanical conditioning of the sludge, create a pumpable slurry that may be removed from the tank with minimal time, cost and environmental impact.

Abstract: Crushing finely the chipped rubber such as that of waste tire is done by further small number of crushers, and the capture rate of the target size of the rubber particles is improved. With a crusher which finely crushes the chipped rubber (G) such as that of waste tire, the chipped rubber (G) is supplied to a crusher (10a) structured by a rotating roll (12) having relatively rough groove pitch and pluralities of fixed blades (14) each of which has pluralities of grooves forming crushing edges, thus conducting crushing. The rubber particles (G) discharged from the crusher (10a) are again supplied to the crusher (10a) to repeat the crushing to conduct rough-finishing operation. Then, thus roughly-finished rubber particles (G) are treated by similar crushing operation using a rotating roll (10b) having relatively small groove pitch to conduct finish treatment. The finely-crushed rubber particles are classified using a sieve (16) to specified size ranges.

  • Patent number: 7451943
Abstract: A method of preparation of a liquid electrostatographic toner or liquid ink jet ink which includes the steps of heating a marking particle mix of particles of a resin and a colourant blend in a carrier liquid to a temperature between about the first softening point of the resin and about the second softening point of the resin, maintaining the temperature of the heated marking particle mix for a selected period of time, cooling the marking particle mix to room temperature, and mixing the marking particle mix with high shear. The particle mix can be produced by coarse grinding in a ball mill. The resultant toner or ink has an improved Newtonian like flow behaviour, improved electrical properties, reduced sedimentation and agglomeration and significantly improved optical density and reduced background. The invention also includes toners and inks produced by the method.

Abstract: A grinding mill has an outer housing and a rotor mounted in the housing to form a grinding zone between the housing and rotor into which a charge to be ground is introduced. A pair of spaced rings are located at the entranceway to the grinding zone to form an annular gap through which the charge passes. At least one of the rings is adjustable to vary the gap width in response to one or more mill operating parameters. The rings control the flow of the charge into the grinding zone and reduce the size of the charge particles before they enter the grinding zone.
