Patent number: 7559493Abstract: A media basket mill utilizes a media bed having very small media to attain a mixture of finely divided solids in a liquid vehicle. A bearing construct which journals the rotor of the basket mill within the basket of the mill includes a bearing which is protected against excessive wear by including a recess in the rotor. The recess is juxtaposed with the bearing and communicates with the media bed such that upon rotation of the rotor to pass feedstock through the media bed for a mixing operation, media and feedstock in the vicinity of the bearing will be directed from the recess into the bed of media and feedstock outside the rotor, thereby diverting media and feedstock away from the bearing and deterring excessive wear which might otherwise result from media and feedstock interacting with the bearing during rotation of the rotor for the mixing operation.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2007Date of Patent: July 14, 2009Assignee: Hockmeyer Equipment Corp.Inventors: Herman H. Patent number: 5894998Abstract: An agitator mill for flowable mill charge grinding, has a fixed, outer, cylindrical grinding container, to which is coaxially fitted in spaced manner a cylindrical inner stator. A rotary driven, cup-shaped rotor is positioned coaxially to the grinding container and engages in the grinding area formed between the grinding container and the inner stator, so that the grinding area is subdivided into an outer grinding area and an inner grinding area, the grinding areas being interconnected hydraulically by means of a connecting area. A discharge device located within the inner stator is connected in the flow direction to the inner grinding area. A rotary, cylindrical separating screen is positioned coaxially to the rotor between the end of the inner grinding area and the discharge device.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Draiswerke, Inc.Inventors: Gisbert Schall, Edward Casama

Patent number: 5882246Abstract: In a wet agitating ball mill, a shaft 5 rotated and driven by a motor is hollow at its axial center at an upper portion, a discharge route 9 communicating with a slurry discharge port is provided, and a rotor 11 is affixed at the lower portion of the shaft. A separator 4 is composed of a pair of disks 21 and a blade 22 for coupling both disks to form an impeller, and by its rotation, a centrifugal force is applied to the slurry and media getting in the separator 4, and by the difference in specific gravity of the two, accordingly, the media having the heavier specific gravity is expelled and separated in the radial direction, while the slurry of the lighter specific gravity is discharged through the discharge route 9 of the shaft 5 in a state free from kinetic energy.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1997Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: Kotobuki Eng. & Mfg. Patent number: 5873532Abstract: The present invention relates to a ball mill having a substantially horizontal axis of rotation and including a drum supported by two trunions having the same axis of rotation and situated at respective ends of the drum, raw coal being conveyed by substantially vertical pipework to the vicinity of a cylinder having the same axis of rotation and disposed within each trunion so as to open out into the drum, with the space lying between each trunion and its cylinder being connected to a pulverized coal outlet duct via a separator. A raw coal guide member is disposed beneath the pipework, conveying coal under gravity into the inside of the cylinder which includes a rigid Archimedes' screw on its inside surface, a main air feed being provided on said pipework upstream from the separator, all of said air being channeled towards the inside of the cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1997Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: GEC ALSTHOM Stein IndustrieInventor: Daniel Fontanille

Patent number: 5848755Abstract: An asphalt roofing material recycling system and method is used to recycle asphalt materials, such as asphalt shingles and tar paper that include granules, fibers or other particles. The asphalt material is simultaneously heated and milled in a heated milling apparatus, such as a heated ball mill, to reduce the asphalt material granules to a fine mesh in suspension in liquid asphalt. Excess moisture is removed from the asphalt material being recycled, either during heating and milling by continuously venting the heated milling apparatus, or before the heating and milling in a drying apparatus. The heated milling apparatus preferably includes a rotatable milling vessel rotated at an acute angle with respect to the horizontal plane and having an opening that provides continuous venting. The rotatable milling vessel includes a plurality of mixing members, such as rods or paddles, extending from an interior surface and preferably arranged in a helical pattern to force the asphalt material away from the opening.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1996Date of Patent: December 15, 1998Assignee: Environmental Reprocessing Inc.Inventors: Thomas J.
