    Abstract: A rotary milling system includes a body rotatable about its longitudinal axis and pivotable about a pivot axis that is transverse to the longitudinal axis. The system includes an interchangeable discharge grate and a solid cover for attaching to an open end of the body. The discharge grate includes a plurality of holes through which milled product can pass while grinding media is retained. The body is pivotable to a vertical orientation, where the covers can be changed, and to a horizontal orientation where grinding can be performed with the solid cover attached or discharge can be performed with the discharge grate attached. The discharge grate is sealed to a discharge housing during discharge via an annular seal, where the discharge grate and body are rotated relative to the fixed discharge housing. The discharge grate can include a deflector portion that deflects milled product away from the annular seal.

The mill head extension includes a second annular sealing surface sealingly engaged with the first annular sealing surface of the flexible pad seal.

    Abstract: An automatic positioning device for a ball mill can allows an operator to set a ball mill can on the rollers of a ball mill stand without centering or modifying the position of the can. The positioning device includes a mounting fixture secured to the ball mill stand at the end of a generally cylindrical ball mill can. The mounting fixture has a bore hole through which is inserted a post. The post is capable of rotating within the bore hole and has a generally U-shaped yoke secured to an end thereof which extends from the mounting fixture toward a bottom end wall of the ball mill can. Mounted on a pin between the yoke arms is a circular disk which is free to spin about the pin within the yoke. The positioning device is mounted on the ball mill stand such that a peripheral edge of the disk contacts the bottom end wall of the ball mill can during the milling process.

    Abstract: A planetary mill adapted for the continuous grinding of granulated material into fine powder is disclosed. A grinding chamber is provided that is continuously orbited in a planetary motion. As the tube undergoes its planetary motion it is caused to undergo a rotation about its own axis at the same rate and in an opposite sense to the planetary rotation. As a result the grinding chamber has no net rotation with respect to an external observer and can be connected to any number of external connections without the use of rotating seals provided the drive for the planetary rotation is external to the locus of points encompassed by the path of the connections as the system rotates. The ratio of the orbit radius of the planetary motion is 2.15 times that of the cylindrical tube so as to cause a cascade angle of about 45 degrees of mill mix and media in the orbiting tube which angle is independent of the rotation rate of the mill at reasonable speeds.

    Abstract: Stirred ball mills which have a casing that houses serially related sets of elongated, longitudinally extending stirring elements. The elements of each set are supported in a concentric array about and from a rotatable shaft. Complementary arrays of stirring elements may be supported from the casing, and it and the shaft can be rotated in opposite directions to optimize the stirring of the grinding balls in the mill. Also, concentric arrays of stirring elements may be assembled to the shaft or the shaft and the casing for this purpose. The stirring rods also cause the grinding balls to scour and thereby prevent plugging of a screen located at the discharge end of the mill to keep the grinding balls from escaping. The mill can be tilted in a manner that results in the grinding balls being uniformly distributed along the length of the casing.

The outer cover section has an opening for docking a substance container and the inner cover section has a passage opening which is aligned at one of the two stops with the opening for docking and which is closed at the other stop by the outer cover section. The treatment drum can be tilted about a tilting axis perpendicular to its central axis by means of a tilting unit.

The coarse grate has a plurality of openings (20) which constitute substantially the effective open area of the coarse grate. Disposed within the space defined between the coarse grate (6) and the sieving screen (7) are guiding members (21, 22) to guide coarse particles backwards to the grinding chamber (3) through one or more apertures (19) in the coarse grate (6) which allows free passage of the coarse particles.
