Abstract: An apparatus for roughage processing includes a first platform for placing of a first type of roughage, a first cutting mechanism for processing the first type of roughage, a first chain for cutting the first type of roughage from the first platform to the first cutting mechanism; and a second platform, a second cutting mechanism, and a second chain for performing similar tasks with a second type of roughage. The first chain and the second chain are driven at a different speed to provide concurrent cutting of the first and second types of roughages at different cut sizes. The apparatus further includes a conveyor for concurrently collecting the first type of roughage and the second type of roughage after respective processing by the first cutting mechanism and the second cutting mechanism for effective blending of the two types of roughages, each of which has been cut differently to obtain its optimum particle size for ruminant consumption.

Abstract: Musical cymbals are mounted on a tripod stand using a threaded rod which is several inches in length. A conventional nut is then threaded on the rod which has to be turned a multiple number of times until the nut abuts the cymbal thereby securing the cymbal on the rod. Using the slip nut assembly of this invention eliminates this time consuming installation procedure of the nut and similarly eliminates the time consuming uninstalling of the nut when the musician is to move to a different playing location.

The product is fed/guided generally radially toward the slicing/shaving edge and is sliced/shaved thereby along the circular path in a continuous high speed fashion.

Abstract: Apparatus for processing solid waste includes a chamber for receiving the waste, which may be any contaminated or non-contaminated waste including paper, plastics, cloth, metal and hospital sharps, and a ram for forcing the waste, to which germicide may be added, into contact with a plurality of cutting heads. The cutting heads which shred, shear and cut the waste are each mounted on an elongated rotating shaft. Each cutting head includes a plurality of parallel cutting blades separated by spacers. Adjacent cutting heads mesh together so that cutting blades of one cutting head interdigitate with spacers of an adjacent cutting head. A pair of curved doors close the chamber closely adjacent the cutting heads while the waste is being cut, and are opened for releasing the cut waste. The doors include elongated parallel grooves alternately for receiving the cutting edges of the cutting blades and for receiving the spacers.

Abstract: A wood pulp grinder includes a grinder housing for supporting wood to be ground above a grindstone. A main press chamber in the grinder housing supports a main press ram which moves toward and away from the grindstone. When the main press ram is upraised, the main press chamber is charged with wood to be ground. Adjacent one or both circumferential sides of the main press chamber is disposed a respective auxiliary press ram with is movable toward the grindstone independently of the motion of the main press ram for retaining pressure upon the wood in the grinder housing while the main press ram is not pressing upon the wood. The auxiliary press ram or rams are relatively long in a lengthwise direction, having a length equal to fifty percent and preferably at least eighty percent of their active press stroke. The active lower surface of the auxiliary press ram may be inclined generally in a direction tangent to the surface of the grindstone or may be curved convexly toward the grindstone.

Abstract: A method of regulating a grinding process in a pocket grinder pressing a wood batch in at least one pocket against a rotating grindstone with a grinding plate movable in the pocket calculates the apparent pulp quantity produced at measuring points at fixed intervals of the grinding stroke and changes in the wood batch density which occur during the grinding stroke. The value thus calculated is compared with a target value for the pulp quantity to be produced and the grinding process regulated thereby to reach the target value. To make the pulp quantity produced as even as possible, the calculated value of the apparent pulp quantity produced is corrected in relation to the hydraulic pressure used during the grinding stroke.

Abstract: A treating process for the separation of coated nuclear fuel particles from a graphitic matrix in which the nuclear fuel particles are embedded, which is employed in an installation for the conditioning of graphitic fuel elements of high-temperature nuclear reactors. The graphite which encompasses the nuclear fuel particles is conducted away through the action of a brush which isolates the nuclear fuel particles together with their coatings or the nuclear particles themselves, and wherein the nuclear fuel particles which are contained in the brushed product are then separated from the comminuted graphite. The nuclear fuel particles are worked out of the graphitic matrix through the action of the bristles of the brush which conduct the graphite away, but in which the coated nuclear fuel particles when they are contained within hard coatings or the nuclear fuel particles themselves, remain preserved.

Abstract: A method for feeding a wood batch into a pressure grinder, according to which method the wood batch is first fed into a pressurizable feeding device (9) and thereafter from the feeding device into a continuously pressurized grinding chamber (5) to make contact with a grinding means (3) rotating in the grinding chamber. The wood batch is fed from the feeding device into the grinding chamber essentially in a horizontal plane in the direction of the axis (4) of rotation of the grinding means for maintaining proper order of the wood batch during the feeding operation. In a feeding device for carrying out the method the feeding device (9) is positioned on the side of the grinding chamber (5) so that the bottom (10a) of the feeding pocket (10) formed by the feeding device is essentially in level with the bottom (5a) of the grinding chamber. The feeding device is provided with a pushing means (17) displaceable in the feeding pocket towards the grinding chamber in parallel with the level of the bottom.
