  • Publication number: 20140084093
Abstract: A safety inlet apparatus for a paper feed opening of a shredder, with cutting cylinders including an upper casing having a feed end with a safety dam with upper and lower indices. An angled plate means set apart from the upper casing forms the paper feed opening. A safety plate with a distal index end is provided, which is formed to traverse the feed opening from the angled plate to the safety dam. Also included is a pivot, and a power control switch. The pivot is configured to facilitate traversal of the safety plate distal index from the angled plate to the safety dam. The power limit switch is on the upper casing, apart from the pivot member. The traversal of the safety plate distal index end to the safety dam lower index causes the power control switch to stop comminution. A buckle bit plate provides open and closed detents.

Abstract: A shredding machine for domestic or office use having a feed passage 3 leading to a cutting mechanism 10, 11 powered by an electric motor, has a thickness measuring device 15 for measuring the thickness of bundles of paper fed through the feed passage and the machine is controlled by a microprocessor which receives signals from the thickness measuring device and prevents the cutting mechanism from being energised if the thickness measured is above a threshold determined by the microprocessor. The microprocessor varies the threshold in accordance with electrical supply voltage, the electric motor temperature and the electric current drawn by the motor during a previous shredding operation, so that the maximum thickness the shredder will accept can be reduced automatically when motor temperature increases or as the effectiveness of the machine deteriorates throughout its working life.

Abstract: Active protection system for a paper shredder, which includes an upper cover and a shedder plate on the upper cover. The paper shredder plate includes a touch structure, which engagingly interacts with a preferential power supply switch. When closed, the shredder plate prevents contact with the shredding blade. When opened, the shredder plate both initiates shredder normal operation, and prevents feeding of unexpected items into the shredder making accidental contact with the shredding blade. When an unexpected item contacts the safety structure, beneath the paper shredder plate, the protection system switches off the shredder power supply.

A transmission gear set is disposed between the cutting blades and paper-feeding wheels of the shredder. The primary gear of the transmission gear set is mounted on the rotary shaft of the cutting blades. The primary gear has at least one interference element. When the rotary shaft rotates in the shredding direction, the interference element connects and rotates with the end part of the rotary shaft. When the rotary shaft rotates in the reverse direction, the interference element is separate from the end part of the rotary shaft. This ensures that the paper-feeding wheels remain static in the REV mode.
