  • Patent number: 6945490
Abstract: A traveling yarn tension compensating system having a pair of vertically disposed, horizontally spaced ball-type yarn tensioning units and a yarn tension compensating device disposed therebetween. The device has a yarn engaging element with a yarn engaging surface that is downwardly convex for engaging a yarn thereunder. The surface is fixed so as not to rotate or otherwise move in the direction of travel of the yarn and is made of a material that imposes a tension increasing frictional drag on the traveling yarn. The surface engaging element is mounted to be freely movable vertically in response to tension in the traveling yarn. The convex shape of the yarn engaging surface results in a greater extent of surface engagement of the yarn when the surface engaging element is in a lower position resulting from lesser tension in the yarn and at which position it deflects the yarn downwardly over the yarn guides.

  • Patent number: 4811918
Abstract: A device for allowing screen to be unrolled from a roll and applied to an open frame while simultaneously maintaining constant tension across the width of the screen. A roll friction bar is provided which extends closely parallel to the circumferential surface of the roll of screen. The roll friction bar is attached to the roll by insertion into the axial openings typically found in rolls of screen material. The free end of the roll of screen is brought around the roll friction bar, doubled back over the screen still on the roll, and fixedly attached to the open frame. The installer then unwinds a desired amount of screen from the roll. By grasping the roll with one hand, the installer is able to both prevent screen from further unwinding from the roll and maintain constant tension across the width of screen being applied.

  • Patent number: 4586667
Abstract: The flyer mechanism includes a readily adjustable wire tensioning mechanism which is repeatably settable so that varying degrees of tension may be applied to the wire along the flyer arm. Centrifugal action is used to transfer wire flutter from a region near the coil form to a fluttering loop of wire between the tensioning mechanism and the flyer nozzle. The tensioning means are usable singly or in combination with a wire guide to control the size of the centrifugally generated loop. The flyer discharge nozzle may, in effect, be "free floating" and the attitude of each nozzle is controlled by the strand of wire extending between the form means and such nozzle. With this arrangement, the previously mentioned fluttering loop can have a maximum affect on the tension of the wire extending between the form means and nozzle. All of the features disclosed are operable for either direction of flyer rotation.
