  • Patent number: 7568650
Abstract: The present invention provides an alternate design for a level-wind mechanism that eliminates the requirement for the line to be threaded through an enclosed, or multiple device line guide. The present invention guides the line via an open slot created between one or more line guides that pivots about its supporting structure. The line guide(s) oscillate back and forth in concert across the axial length of the spool in order to evenly distribute the line that is being wound upon the spool. Further, the line guide is capable of being pivoted from a first position of line retrieve to a second position of line dissemination when it is desired to pay out the line from the spool.

  • Patent number: 7232086
Abstract: An oscillation device axially oscillates a spool with handle rotation, and includes a driving gear, a cam gear, a slider, and a guiding portion. The driving gear is arranged on a master gear shaft, so as to be spaced apart from the master gear. The cam gear has a cam pin on its side surface, and is arranged on the fishing rod attachment side of the oscillation device relative to the master gear shaft. The cam gear is attached to the reel unit rotatably about an axis substantially parallel to the master gear shaft, so as to rotate in cooperation with the driving gear. The slider has a cam receiving portion engaging with the cam pin of the cam gear, and is axially immovably attached to the rear of the spool shaft. The guiding portion is provided in the reel unit and guides the slider movably in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 6971600
Abstract: The invention compensates or normalizes for the non-linear oscillation speed of the spool in a fishing reel through use of a special shaped guide slot. The guide slot can be shaped through combining a number of curves into the length of the slot. In particular, for each end of the guide slot there is contained a curvature section, such that both ends of the guide slot are curving toward the spool side in one design or away from the spool in the other design. This general shape of the guide slot improves the contact position between the pole and the level wind bracket, and also compensates for the non-linear speed of the spool. The shape of the guide slot also reduces the wobbling or jiggling that occurs during operation of the reel when compared to conventionally designed reels.

  • Publication number: 20020130209
Abstract: A spinning reel with a handle shaft rotatably supported in a reel body. The handle shaft is connected with a handle. A master gear and a driving spiral gear are provided at separated positions on the handle shaft. The master gear is meshingly engaged with a pinion gear provided integrally with a rotor at the front of the reel body so that rotation of the handle rotates the rotor. A spool shaft fixed with a spool extends in a frontward/rearward direction of the reel body and is oscillatingly movably supported on the reel body. A traverse camshaft is rotatably supported by the reel body. The traverse camshaft is fixedly provided with a driven spiral gear and is formed with a cam groove. A slider member is fixed to the spool shaft and has a pawl engaged with the cam groove so that the slider member is driven to move along the length of the traverse camshaft by rotation of the traverse camshaft.
