  • Patent number: 6270031
Abstract: A tape transport system includes two tape reels, each having a pair of flanges between which the tape is held. The parallel flange pairs position the tape in a direction normal to tape travel across the tape head contact surface. A cam guide is associated with each reel. Each cam guide has a curved surface over which the magnetic tape travels. The curved surface is positioned between the reel flange pair based on the amount of tape wound on the tape reel. The cam is positioned so that magnetic tape contacts the tape head contact surface at substantially the same location for any amount of tape wound on the tape reel.

  • Patent number: 5865389
Abstract: An air dam (35) is place between free tape (13) extending to a reel (11) and the reel (11). During high speed winding operations, the air dam (35) interrupts air flow toward the convergence (17) of the free tape (13) with the reel (11). This reduces a tendency for air entrainment in tape (15) packed on the reel (11) during the high speed winding operations.

  • Patent number: 5842048
Abstract: Advancing sheath film loader, method of film loading, and camera frame assembly. In the method a photographic filmstrip is loaded in a film supply. A sheath is advanced into the film supply. The sheath defines a substantially cylindrical scroll space within the film supply. During the advancing, the filmstrip is propelled into the scroll space to form a scroll. During the propelling, the sheath is tensioned against the scroll. The sheath can be disposed substantially in the film supply prior to film loading. If so, the sheath is partially extracted and then is returned to the film supply in coordination with the propelling of the filmstrip into the film supply.

  • Patent number: 5535958
Abstract: A technical device, such as an electromechanical deck for moving information carriers, includes a plastics function part molded into a deck plate by outsert-molding. The function part includes a bridge element, which traverses a hole in the deck plate, and retaining elements, which are situated at the deck plate surfaces and are interconnected by the bridge element, the plastics of said part being subject to shrinkage after injection-molding. The mobility of the function part as a rotatable or slidable part is obtained automatically despite shrinkage of the plastics part by positioning the retaining elements at each end of the bridge element so that they do not overlap, when viewed in the axial direction of the bridge, with a retaining element at the opposite end of the bridge.

  • Patent number: 5505361
Abstract: A review pole support structure in a tape recorder minimizes the vibration of a review pole, which is used for guiding tape movement, and enables easy control of the perpendicularity and height of the review pole. The review pole support structure includes a review arm to which the review pole is perpendicularly and fixedly attached. The review arm is installed on the deck of the tape recorder so as to be rotatable between first and second locations, moving the review pole between first and second positions, respectively. In the second location, the review arm is pressed downward toward the deck by a resilient member to provide stability. Also, in the second position, a grounding member electrically contacts the review pole and the deck to remove static electricity from the review pole. Protrusions on the review arm are in contact with the deck.

  • Patent number: 5326045
Abstract: A leader block is provided for connection to a free end of storage tape media. The leader block includes a main body and a clamp member. The main body and clamp member define a space for receiving the free end of the storage tape media. A punch member is joined to the clamp member. The main body, the clamp member and the punch member are parts of a single, integral device that is preferably made by molding. After the storage tape media is inserted into the receiving space between the main body and the clamp member, the clamp member is caused to move relative to the main body by applying sufficient, predetermined shear forces. The punch member is also caused to move relative to the clamp member. The storage tape media is sandwiched between the main body and the clamp member using forces provided by the punch member and clamping forces caused by the main body and the clamp member.
