Abstract: An extendable and retractable coupling system is configured with a retractable coupler that is tethered to a coupler body to retain valuable item to a person or other item. An extendable coupling system has a dual coupler having a fixed coupler that is stationary, or configured on the coupler body and a retractable coupler that is coupled to the coupler body by a tether. The retractable coupler may be coupled to a valuable item, such as a mobile phone and the fixed coupler may be coupled to a person clothing, such as to a belt loop, for example. The user may then extend the tether to use their mobile phone and place the phone back into a pocket when not in use. The tether may prevent the valuable item, such as the mobile phone, from dropping to the ground and being damaged.

Stiffness in the extended form may be provided using membrane curvature, or a retractable support member may be used, or both. Transitions between the extended form and the retracted form are preferably accomplished using sequential activation of tensile members that are configured in segments of the membrane. Activation of the tensile elements is preferably implemented using a processor or controller that activates tri-state drivers in a predetermined sequence in order to pass a current through each element when heating is desired. • Patent number: 6257558
Abstract: An apparatus for protecting the gate of an animal enclosure with an electrified wire that also extends along fencing includes a reel that dispenses and collects the wire to minimize the possibility of shock during gate opening and closing procedures. A hollow reel housing is mounted to a first fence post to which the gate is hingedly attached. A truncate wire connected to a source of electrical power such as an electrified fence wire extends into the hollow reel housing through a first opening and is connected to a nonrotating electrical contact. An annular rotating electrical contact is in electrical communication with a proximal end of wire coiled about the reel and is mounted on the reel so that the wire remains in electrical communication with the source of power when the reel is rotating in a wire-dispensing direction or in a wire-collecting direction. The wire, when uncoiled, extends through a second opening formed in the hollow reel housing.

  • Patent number: 6079143
Abstract: A fishing lure retrieval apparatus having a housing in which is mounted a spool containing a retrieval line. The spool is biased by an internal spring to pull any extended retrieval line to the spool. A portion of the retrieval external to the housing has a free end with a split ring used to attach a lure retriever. A weighted body may be used as the lure retriever and the housing can be fixed mounted to the side of a boat and the retrieval line moved by hand or the housing may be hand held by a user.

  • Patent number: 5791581
Abstract: A power recoilable rule has an elongated bumper for cushioning the recoil impact of the blade hook when the blade is refracted into the casing. The casing has an opening at a juncture between the bottom wall and front wall, and a bumper is mounted in the casing within the opening for linear sliding movement relative to the casing in a path along the bottom wall. The opening in the front wall and the outer end of the bumper cooperate to provide an exit aperture for the elongated blade which extends outwardly through the exit aperture and has a hook on its outer end. A shock absorbing compression spring acts between the inner end of the bumper and the housing, and it is compressed by the inward movement of the bumper to absorb energy imparted by the hook when it impacts the bumper.
