Releasable Spool Drive (e.g., Clutched Spool) Patents (Class 242/394)
  • Patent number: 10507689
Abstract: A chalk line apparatus with a housing having a body with a top, a bottom, a front, a rear, and laterally spaced sides. The body defines an internal space within which a spool is operatively mounted. A drive assembly is operable through an actuator to cause line to be accumulated on the spool through a fill opening on the housing. A supply of chalk can be introduced into the internal space to contact the line. A stopper assembly can be selectively placed in closed and open states. The stopper assembly has a blocking portion that: a) blocks passage of chalk through the fill opening with the stopper assembly in the closed state; and b) permits chalk to be directed through the fill opening and into the internal space with the stopper assembly in the open state. The stopper assembly is adjacent to the drive assembly actuator.

Abstract: A novel retractable cord reel with electrical contacts that engage when the spool is locked from retraction. The spool moves axially to engage stationary electrical contacts mounted to the cord reel housing. These stationary contacts are typically connected to a stationary cord that is routed out of the cord reel for connection to another device, or they can be connected to devices or electronics contained inside the cord reel housing. When the spool is one axial position, the contacts are disengaged and the spool can rotate. Abstract: A webbing take-up device provided with a clutch disposed between a take-up shaft and a motor, the clutch coupling and releasing coupling of the take-up shaft to the motor. When a gear wheel of the clutch is rotated in a take-up direction by the motor, a friction spring mounted to a spring housing portion of the clutch housing moves a pawl with a first protrusion of the friction spring, causing the pawl to mesh with a ratchet wheel. Relative rotation of the gear wheel with respect to the ratchet wheel (spool) in the take-up direction is thereby restricted, and the spool rotates with the gear wheel in the take-up direction. Since the pawl is directly moved by the friction spring mounted on the clutch housing, the configuration for moving the pawl can be simplified.

A clutch of this webbing take-up device has a simply configuration where sliders 144 of a clutch body portion 114 are caused by frictional force to be retained in a case, whereby the sliders 144 and lock bars 154 are caused to relatively move and the lock bars 154 are caused by this relative movement to move to positions where they engage with or disengage from a ratchet 134. The reeling wheel drive mainly comprises a gear transmission chain, and is operated through a lever by manpower (e.g., treading of a foot). Since manpower is used to retract the hose or cable, this invention avoids the related problems that may occur when the retraction is achieved completely relying on the coil spring. For example, the disordered brandish, which may occur owing to an excessive retractive force, can be avoided during the retraction of the hose or cable, and a combined drive of manpower and retractive force of the coil spring is possible.

  • Patent number: 7249727
Abstract: A method of drawing lines into a housing includes: rotating a dial in a first rotational direction of the dial such that a first spool located in an interior of the housing is mechanically rotated in a first rotational direction thereby winding a first line thereabout; and rotating the same dial in a second rotational direction opposite to the first rotational direction such that a second spool located in the interior of the housing is mechanically rotated in a first rotational direction thereby winding a second line thereabout. The rotating of the same dial in the second, opposite rotational direction does not result in unwinding of the first line from the first spool, and the rotating of the same dial in the first rotational direction does not result in unwinding of the second line from the second spool.

  • Patent number: 7143971
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward apparatus and methods for rolling and distribution of fencing material, and is particularly suited for flexible fencing such as metal and plastic fencing, whether linked, boxed, webbed, barbed, electrified, or otherwise configured. The apparatus of the invention can be mounted on a skid loader, tractor, or other lifting vehicle, whether onto the bucket attachment or onto the forklift attachment of such a lifting vehicle. The apparatus has a wrapping shaft that is pivotally or hingedly mounted to supporting framework. The shaft is connected to a motor for powered rotation of the shaft. The apparatus also has one or more tensioning rollers that flatten the fencing and position it during uptake or distribution of fencing by the wrapping roller. The supporting framework has guides that orient and position the fencing as it passes through the apparatus. The invention also provides methods of recovering, as well as distributing, fencing using the apparatus.

Abstract: A cable drive unit for opening and closing a sliding door on a vehicle (not shown) has a cup-shaped front drum having a helical front cable groove and a rear cup-shaped drum having a helical rear cable groove. The front drum is rotated about a longitudinal axis in a first direction to open the sliding door. The rear drum is partially nested in the front drum and rotated about the longitudinal axis in an opposite direction to close the sliding door. The front drum and the rear drum are drivingly connected to each other via a tension spring that biases the front drum and the rear drum in opposite directions when in tension. The front and rear drums are rotated by a concentric clutch that is nested in the rear drum. The clutch includes a drive member that is drivingly connected to the front drum via a first lost motion connection and drivingly connected to the rear drum via a second lost motion connection.

Abstract: This invention is for a type of mechanism for umbrella self lock operation. It is composed of the swinging mechanism, lifting mechanism, stopping mechanism and clutch mechanism. Among them, the clutch mechanism includes a spooler with a hole in the middle section for rope to pass through. On the axial, there are stopper rings and elastic flexible keys. The front end of the spooler has screw thread section. The clutch axle box shall have ratchet and the on the ring diameter, there is positioning threads. It enters through the front-end thread section of the spooler. It will make the ratchet section and the elastic flexible keys joint together under normal conditions. Through handgrip thread, it joints together with the front-end thread section of the spooler. It will control the left and right rotating movement. Use pressure to engage the joint of axle box and the thread of the front cover, it forms auto self lock performance.

Abstract: A spool for carrying continuous pipe or coiled tubing for a coiled tubing injector is dropped into a stand at a site and coupled to a rotary power source. The stand includes two axles, on either side of the spool, and a drive plate. The spool includes on each side a supporting hub with slot that allows the axle to slide into the hub and the slot to be closed. At the same time, a coupling member on the drive plate slides into a mating contact with a complementary coupling member on the spool. Thus, the spool is mounted and coupled to a rotary power source with comparative ease and quickness, facilitating use of multiple spools for both transportation and operation at the well site.

Abstract: The Easy Arm Cable Winder Adapter is a labor and time saving device which allows small diameter cables to be retrieved and wound with an electric drill. The electric drill provides the torque required to retrieve and wind the cable. The Easy Arm Cable Winder Adapter can be modified to work with any brand or type of hand operated down hole instrumentation as well as to retrieve and spool any hand operated cable, wire, tube, line, filament, fiber, thread, string, twine, cord, rope or hose. More specifically, the Easy Arm Cable Winder Adapter significantly reduces the cost, time and effort required to retrieve Slope Indicator Company's Water Level Indicator (meter) cable and wind it back on its spool. Use of the Easy Arm Cable Winder Adapter on a water level meter makes sounding wells significantly faster and requires much less physical labor. The Easy Arm Cable Winder Adapter extends the range of applications for the water level meter and, in some cases, may preclude the use of more expensive technologies.
