Material Registration Patents (Class 242/554.1)
  • Patent number: 9206012
Abstract: Systems and methods for aligning preprinted images on a roll of substrate to the moving components of a web press are disclosed. A method in accordance with one embodiment includes determining the speed of the moving components of the press, determining the speed of the web of preprinted images and adjusting the speed of the web of preprinted image to match the speed of the web. In particular embodiments, a press which produces rolls of preprinted material can be modified to change the equivalent cutoff length of the press. In further embodiments, a method of pasting new rolls of material to expiring rolls of material is accomplished by modulating the drive speed of the new roll of material to match the expiring roll of material while at the same time aligning the images on the new roll with the expiring roll.

  • Patent number: 8342221
Abstract: An apparatus for jointing of cord fabric performed when cord fabric for topping is alternately drawn from two supply positions for continuous supply. When drawing to supply of the cord fabric on one side, a start end portion of the cord fabric on other side is locked to hold by a locking pin of a jointing holder, and is set to a jointing mounting portion in a state where an unvulcanized jointing rubber member is pasted thereto. When a final end of the cord fabric on the one side comes closer, a finish end portion thereof is pasted to the start end portion of the cord fabric held by the holder by interposing the rubber member therebetween. The finish end portion and the start end portion are squeezed for joint from upper and lower sides by press members. Thereafter, the holder is removed, and the cord fabric on the other side is drawn to supply continuously to the cord fabric on the one side.

  • Patent number: 7022057
Abstract: A device for manufacturing packing bags from two packaging films, comprising two transport rollers, each of which pulls a film from a respective feed roll. The two films have marks printed on them at regular intervals. The transport rollers are pressed against corresponding idler rollers which between them preferably form a feed gap for the films. Downstream of the two transport rollers, there is at least one first buffer taking up slack in the assemblage of the two films or accommodating the lengths of the two films to match each other. The device can be used to synchronize two films that are printed with a regular pattern so that the patterns match.

  • Patent number: 6887330
Abstract: Carrier tapes, each carrying electronic circuitry parts at predetermined intervals on a carrier portion, are successively and continuously fed to a punching station from a tape feeding station with at least a pair of tape supply reels. While a carrier tape from a first supply reel is being fed to the punching station, a carrier tape from a second supply reel is set in a standby position. As soon as the carrier tape from the first supply reel is consumed to a last electronic part, a head end of the carrier tape from the second supply reel is spliced to a tail end of the carrier tape of the first supply reel by means of tape holder members located in the course of a tape supply route between the tape feeding station and the tape punching station, thereby make replacement of the tape supply reel quicker and easier.

  • Patent number: 6880604
Abstract: A sleeve label splicer apparatus is disclosed for splicing together a tail end of a roll of sleeve labels to a leading edge of a replacement roll of sleeve labels. The splicer apparatus includes a drive roller for driving and guiding the roll of sleeve labels and a backing roller cooperating with the drive roller such that the drive and backing rollers define therebetween a nip for controllably positioning the tail end of the roll of sleeve labels relative to the leading edge of the replacement roll of sleeved labels. The arrangement is such that the tail end is disposed in abutting relationship relative to the leading edge of the replacement roll. A splicing tape applicator is provided for applying a splicing tape to front surfaces of the abutting tail end and leading edge. Also, a further splicing tape applicator is provided for applying a further splicing tape to back surfaces of the abutting tail end and leading edge.

  • Patent number: 6817566
Abstract: A web handling apparatus includes a base, a housing, a splicing head mounted in the housing, and first and second non-rotatable swing out roll shafts, each shaft having opposite first and second ends. The roll shafts are normally positioned in the housing substantially parallel to the splicing head so that web can travel through the splicing head to on from web rolls on the roll shafts. A web accumulator mounted to the housing conducts web to or from the splicing head and the housing is movably mounted to the base so that the housing can move relative to the base in either direction parallel to the roll shafts. An actuator connected between the housing and the base moves the housing relative to the base in response to signals from a web position sensor so as to minimize the side lay of web extending to or from the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6603887
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for automatically detecting printed marks which are applied at regular spacings to material webs. The invention is based on the problem of improving the detection of printed marks when separate prints are applied between the printed marks in the same movement path of the printed marks. This problem is solved in that the widths of printed sections and the spacings between printed sections are determined and, if the width and spacing essentially correspond to predetermined values, a printed section is detected as being a printed mark.

  • Publication number: 20020148924
Abstract: Film rolls at the delivery position and the standby position are supported by supporting units. The roll is passed from the standby position to the delivery position by means of the conveying member provided in the roll conveying unit. As a result, it is not necessary to support the rolls at the individual positions by use of the roll conveying unit, thus permitting simplification of the configuration of the unit. The conveying member has a configuration in which the same is attached to a conveying chain put around the sprockets to make it possible to achieve circumferential travel of the conveying member by a single driving motor. When delivering by connecting to the film from the delivery position, the leading end easily comes off the holding unit by inserting the folded leading end of the film from the standby position and holding the same there.

  • Patent number: 6192955
Abstract: Apparatus and method for aligning webs, such as photographic film or paper, where the trailing edge of an expiring web is spliced to the lead edge of a fresh web. A supporting means having the fresh web thereon in a fixed position is caused to move by sensor means transmitting a signal corresponding to precise positioning of the expiring relative to the fixed position of the fresh web. According to the invention, a programmable controller is used to analyze the signals received from the sensors and directs the movements of the supporting means where the webs are ultimately moved into abutting or overlapping contact and then spliced.
