  • Patent number: 7168654
Abstract: A media cartridge is constructed as a case in which a roll of blank media may be deployed for supplying a wallpaper printer. The case has two halves, hinged together. An area between the two halves, when they are closed, defines a media supply slot. The case has internally and adjacent to the slot, a pair of rollers. At least one of the rollers is a driven roller which is supported at each end, by the case, for rotation by an external motor.

Abstract: When a sheet cassette having a roll of paper is attached to a body of a printer, a leading edge of a sheet is always brought to position at a certain position. When the sheet cassette is not attached to the printer body, a stopper, provided near an end of a lever, protrudes to the outside from an opening, so that the leading edge of the sheet, which has passed between a pair of correcting rollers, abuts against the stopper. When the sheet cassette is attached to the printer body, the lever rotates in a clockwise direction, so that the stopper retracts in the opening.

Abstract: A powered dispenser for dispensing individual sheet segments from a continuous roll of sheet material provided with spaced tear lines comprises a powered feed mechanism, a releasable, powered drive mechanism, a powered transfer mechanism, a pair of web sensing sensors, a capacitive sensing system providing automatic sensitivity adjustment, and control circuitry. A dual power supply system provides a mechanical lock-out functionality, and the control system is protected from electrostatic build-up on the surface of the feed roller. The web sensor, and an antenna plate of the capacitive sensing system, are provided on respective printed circuit boards mounted in overlying relation. Utilizing signals received from the pair of web sensors and the capacitive sensing system, the control circuitry senses the presence of a user to activate the powered drive mechanism, and prevents further dispensing of the sheet material until a previously dispensed segment is separated from the roll.

  • Patent number: 7063285
Abstract: A cassette for use in delivering a continuous length of filament provides improved reliability by employing means for preventing tangling of the filament in the cassette. The cassette has a substantially closed housing defining a chamber in which a spool is rotatably mounted, and a path from the chamber to an exit orifice. A length of filament is wound around the spool and has a free strand positioned in the path. The filament strand is advanced along the path and delivered through the exit orifice by a means for advancing. Tangling is prevented by locking the spool during transport of the cassette to maintain a tight wind, and by guiding the filament strand along a snag-free path as it is withdrawn from the cassette. In the exemplary embodiments, a removable pin locks a flange or hub of the spool, and the filament strand is withdrawn through a tubular guide member.

Abstract: A paper dispenser including a carriage that is rotatable between at least a first orientation and a second orientation. The carriage holds at least two rolls of paper. In the first orientation, the first roll is in a primary position and the second roll is in a secondary position. In the second orientation, the first roll is in the secondary position and the second roll is in the primary position. A roll sensor senses the amount of paper remaining on the roll held in the primary position. Paper from at least one of the two rolls is fed into a feed mechanism for dispensation. A transfer mechanism feeds paper from the roll held in the secondary position into the feed, mechanism when the roll sensor senses that the paper on the roll held in the primary position is depleted to less than a predetermined diameter.

  • Patent number: 6607160
Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing rolled materials wherein the dispenser includes a housing adapted to support a roll of material. A cover is attached to the housing, the cover being pivotable upwardly to an open position and pivotable downwardly to a closed position. A first roller may be attached to the housing and a second roller may be attached to the cover. A dispensing opening is formed between the housing and the cover when the cover is in its closed position, so that the leading portion of a roll of material that is placed within the housing may extend over the first roller. When the cover is moved to its closed position, the leading portion is captured in the nip formed between the first roller and the second roller, thus eliminating the need to feed the leading portion of the rolled material through the nip formed by the rollers.

Abstract: The invention is directed to improved apparatus for dispensing flexible web material from plural rolls including improved transfer apparatus for reliably and simply dispensing material from a secondary roll once a primary roll has been depleted. The improved transfer apparatus comprises a one-piece transfer arm, first and second transfer rollers rotatably secured with respect to the transfer arm and a sensing member secured with respect to the transfer arm in position to contact the primary roll web surface. The sensing member permits movement of the transfer arm and transfer rollers to a transfer position once the primary roll diameter diminishes to a predetermined extent causing the secondary roll material to be dispensed.
