Angled Turning Guide For A Web Patents (Class 242/615.21)
  • Publication number: 20030047643
Abstract: Two methods for redirecting a continuous paper web with a face up orientation from a first direction to a second direction with either a face up orientation or an opposing face down orientation are provided. The directions correspond to paper processing devices such as printers and cutters, and an assembly to do the same is also provided. In the preferred embodiment of the assembly, the web passes about a turnbar that is moveable between a first and a second position. In the first position, the web is redirected face down along a second direction. In the second position, the web passes about a roller perpendicular to the second direction and is redirected along the second direction in a face up orientation.

  • Patent number: 6488230
Abstract: Bowed spreader apparatus for laterally stretching, or stressing, a web of material carried in a selected direction along a conveyor path includes an elongate stationary spreader bar extending laterally of the path. The spreader bar has a web support face which is convexly curved both about the longitudinal axis of the bar and along the longitudinal axis. The bar includes a formed elongate support body having a degree of flexibility allowing the body to be bent in a bowed configuration. A face surface of the body is formed in a convex curve about the longitudinal axis of the body and a plurality of hardened elements are individually secured to and cover the face surface of the support body. An underlying interchangeable profiling support having a convexly curved upper surface forms the spreader bar into a selected bowed configuration.

Abstract: A roll quadrant conveyor for conveying strip material generally includes a plurality of support members for supporting a plurality of rolls around a quadrant roll of any desired wrapping angle and, further, a plurality of rolls journaled for rotation in the support members. The rolls are positioned on opposed sides of a conveyor centerline, with each roll positioned at an angle of less than 90° with the conveyor centerline. The rolls define a chevron pattern around the wrapping angle. The strip material, in motion, is centered on the conveyor by the rolls arranged in the chevron pattern. The rolls are profiled rolls.

  • Patent number: 6402136
Abstract: A system for merging multiple streams of documents in side-by-side relation, such as cut from a paper web, into a single document stream is provided. Each document of a document stream passes over a turnbar driven that inverts and redirects the document, a primary conveyor carries the documents in side-by-side relation toward the turnbars, and a cross conveyor carries the documents away in a single merged document stream. The cross conveyor is angled with respect to the primary conveyor, and the turnbars are angled with respect to each conveyor. The turnbars may be staggered and adjusted to output the documents in any order, and the invention may handle two, three, or more simultaneous document streams. The turnbars may be driven by a single drive means which may be reversible, and may be repositioned to direct documents in either direction the cross conveyor may operate.

  • Patent number: 6200397
Abstract: A novel method and apparatus to apply a corrosion protection in the form of a zinc (or other sacrificial anodic material) tape to a tubular member such as pipe or coiled tubing to used as an underground or underwater pipeline or flow line is disclosed. The zinc tape is applied with sufficient heat and pressure to form a metallurgical bond between the zinc tape and underlying metal pipe. This allows the zinc tape to act simultaneously as a continuous protective metal barrier to the normal scrapes and nicks the pipe experiences during installation and as a sacrificial anode. The novel apparatus preheats the zinc tape with a nozzle containing heated gas such as nitrogen as it approaches the pipe surface. At the point of contact with the pipe surface, the nozzle continues heating the tape and pipe surface while a plurality of pressure rollers exert sufficient force on the zinc tape to form a metallurgical bond between the zinc tape and the pipe surface.
