  • Patent number: 7191975
Abstract: In the tape winding apparatus of the present invention, the recessed blowout part is formed at the tip end part of the nozzle and a plurality of slits are disposed at the blowout part. Therefore, the range where the sprayed gas presses the tape becomes wide, and the entire force which presses the tape becomes strong. Thereby, a constant biasing force can be applied to the outer peripheral surface of the tape roll, as a result of which, the tape roll of favorable quality can be obtained.

Abstract: A tape winding method and apparatus for facilitating the escape of air from between layers of a tape during a tape winding operation. A tape winding apparatus has a tape reel onto which a tape is adapted to be wound during a tape winding operation. A plurality of generally radial slots are provided in at least one of first and second flanges of the tape reel to create a fan-like action that generates a negative air pressure in the vicinity of the tape as the tape is being wound onto the tape reel to facilitate the escape of air from between layers of the tape during the tape winding operation.

  • Patent number: 7101441
Abstract: A system and method for dispensing roll material is described that substantially prevents toilet paper runaway and is useful in reducing irritation caused by using dry toilet paper. In one embodiment, the dispenser has a structure that has a thin, but strong curved, rigid arm with a tooth that is biased to engage the toilet paper roll in such a manner that it will only permit the roll to turn only in one direction. If the roll is attempted to be turned in the opposite direction, the tooth, which is disposed toward the roll, will engage the roll and prevent rotation in the second direction without substantially damaging the toilet paper on the roll. In a second embodiment, the toilet paper dispenser will dispense a predetermined amount of toilet paper into a receiver that has a sufficient size that it will fold over onto itself a predetermined number of times.

  • Patent number: 6854683
Abstract: In the tape winder for winding a tape on a reel to form a tape roll, a nozzle which blows a gas toward an outer peripheral surface of the tape roll at a winding time of the tape is fixed on a slider, which is slidably supported on a rail. In this way, the nozzle is supported movably forward and backward with respect to the tape roll. Moreover, the nozzle is pressed toward the tape roll by an air cylinder with a constant pressing force. Thus, the nozzle is allowed to accurately follow an outer peripheral surface of the tape roll, and a constant pressure can be applied to the outer peripheral surface of the tape roll. Consequently, the tape can be wound with an adequate winding tightness.

  • Patent number: 6536703
Abstract: A method and apparatus for winding strip material onto a drum is disclosed. Friction between the surface of the drum and the strip material wound there around, as well as friction between adjacent reels of strip material, may be selectively controlled by controlling the provision of a fluid bed between the strip material and the surface of the drum. Control over this friction allows the individual strips to slip to different degrees relative to the drum on which they are wound. The different amounts of slip permit the strips to be wound on the drum with uniform tension and at a uniform take up speed.

  • Patent number: 6241179
Abstract: A wall is provided on one side of a web of paper or the like traveling along a predefined path, and an airstream is produced between the wall and the traveling web approximately in the direction of web travel. A transverse static pressure gradient is established across the airstream, causing the stream to flow close to the wall surface. This phenomenon is called as the Coanda effect. A partial vacuum created in the airstream causes the web to deflect from its normal path and to be drawn to the wall surface under sufficient pressure to be kept from fluttering. This method of web flutter control is applied to the splicing of webs, as from one roll to another in a web-fed rotary printing press. The web being unwound from the old roll has been susceptible to fluttering while being spliced to the new roll, such web fluttering being eliminable by providing a wall member along the web path and producing an airstream between the web and the wall member.
