The first opening is disposed forward of a center of gravity of the aircraft and the second opening is disposed rearward of the center of gravity of the aircraft to maintain stability of the aircraft. The first opening is coupled to the first storage tank and the second opening is coupled to the second storage tank; a fuselage keel beam is positioned around the perimeters of the first and second openings. The actuator is configured to open the first closure and the second closure, in order to disperse firefighting materials such as water, fire retardant, or a mixture thereof.

    Abstract: A gatebox for an aircraft comprises an opening operable to allow material to flow out of the gatebox, a hopper operable to direct material in the gatebox to the opening, a door coupled to the hopper and operable to move between an open position and a closed position by sliding along a surface of the gatebox, wherein the door comprises a front edge, a rear edge wider than the front edge, and at least two side edges that taper between the front edge and the rear edge, and a seal coupled to the hopper and operable to, when the door is in the closed position, engage the edges of the door and compress to prevent material in the gatebox from being released through the opening along the engaged edge of the door.

The liquid container is connected to a nozzle that sprays water in front of the wheels of the aircraft. A valve is used to control the flow of water from the nozzle. Systems, such as the braking system of the aircraft, can then be tested in wet runway conditions simulated by the system. The amount of water sprayed from the nozzle can also be electronically controlled in relation to the speed of the aircraft, such that the nozzle sprays a nearly uniform layer of liquid in front of the wheels. The system can also be modified to include two tanks to manipulate the center of gravity of the aircraft.
