  • Patent number: 8766814
Abstract: A motorman's cab display system includes a motorman's cab display apparatus that can automatically adjust display luminance of a display device without using an illuminance sensor. The motorman's cab display apparatus determines, based on location information of a train transmitted from a train information control system, whether the train is traveling in a tunnel, sets, when determining that the train is traveling in the tunnel, as the luminance of a display screen, luminance for inside of tunnel set in advance, and sets, when determining that the train is traveling outside the tunnel, as luminance of the display screen, luminance information for outside of tunnel set in advance. A display control method for motorman's cab display apparatuses includes: calculating a traveling location of the train; and adjusting the luminance of the display screen according to the luminance information output from a luminance determining unit.

  • Patent number: 8319660
Abstract: A system on a railroad hopper car for providing an indication, observable by a person located either proximate to or remote from the hopper car, of a condition of a lock arranged in operable combination with a mechanism on the hopper car for controlling discharge of material from the hopper car. The system includes electric circuitry and a sensor for providing a signal when each discharge mechanism lock on the railcar is in the locked condition and for producing another signal when each discharge mechanism lock on the railcar is in the unlocked condition. An illuminable indicator, mountable on a side of the railroad hopper car, is responsive to signals from the circuitry for displaying the condition of the discharge mechanism locks. A method for visually displaying a condition of a lock on a railroad hopper car as through use of illumination is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5564657
Abstract: An electrically controlled railway locomotive throttle controller including a power source connected to a central processing unit disposed on such locomotive. An encoder device is disposed on such locomotive for providing at least one electrical signal to such central processing unit. This at least one electrical signal being at least one of a signal indicative of a throttle position, a signal indicative of dynamic braking and a signal indicative of a reverser. A digital control device is disposed on such locomotive and is connected to receive a signal from such central processing unit to provide a digital control signal that controls the voltage being applied to a trainline. An analog control device is also disposed on such locomotive and is connected to receive a signal from such central processing unit to provide an analog control signal that controls a dynamic brake reference voltage being applied to such trainline.

  • Patent number: 5251856
Abstract: A control circuit which will momentarily apply a pulse of power to the E-Unit solenoid in response to the momentary interruption of power by the transformer or another control signal. The E-Unit rest state is thus with no power applied, eliminating noise and saving power. A seek-to-forward cycling capability is also provided. The overall system has a remote transmitter and a base unit coupled to the train tracks with a receiver. The base unit controls track switching and individual trains through FSK signals transmitted over the track. The base unit also controls a triac switch between the transformer and the track to allow remote control of track power and impose DC offsets on the track power signal.

  • Patent number: 5166610
Abstract: A solid state speed indicator for railroad locomotives is provided with a plurality of indications in addition to speed. These include an acceleration indicator and an overspeed indicator. In addition, the speed indicator is provided with a dual range speed function having at least one particular use in drag operations. A variation of the solid state speed indicator is a retrofit design that replaces the meter movement in existing speed indicator equipment with a solid state display.

  • Patent number: 4944474
Abstract: A system and method for indicating the speed of a locomotive during low speed continuous loading and or unloading of bulk materials such as coal. The system utilizes treadle switches which are equally spaced along a track, the treadle switches generating positional information which is transmitted to a receiver in the locomotive thereby enabling a very accurate indication of the speed of the vehicle to be displayed to the driver.

  • Patent number: 4224874
Abstract: An alert system in a mobile track surfacing machine arranged for intermittent advancement by selected distances from one tamping station to a succeeding tamping station and comprising an operator's station including a control panel for enabling the operator to operate the machine, which alert system comprises an odometer or tie counter for defining the selected distance, a signaling instrument arranged for generating an alert signal for ready preception by the operator to indicate to the operator the succeeding tamping station during the advancement of the machine, and a control for the signaling instrument for generating the readily preceptible alert signal in response to the selected distance whereby the alert signal readily perceptibly indicates to the operator the succeeding tamping station as the advancing machine approaches the succeeding tamping station.
