Patent number: 8608115Abstract: A point rail is shiftable transversely on an upper face of a rail base plate between an engaged position bearing on a longitudinally extending and fixed stock rail and a disengaged position spaced transversely of the stock rail. A roller assembly has a mounting plate securable to the rail base plate, a roller support pivotal about a support axis on the rail base plate, a roller carried on the roller support, and a spring biasing the roller upward with a predetermined spring force into a lift position with the roller projecting upward past the upper face for supporting the point rail on the roller. Thus this assembly supports the point rail and, in the engaged position, presses it against the support cleats and the stock rail and it is an integral part of one of the rail base plates.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2011Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Schwihag AGInventors: Tilmann Ruetzel, Frank Meyer, Bernd Wientges

Patent number: 8430364Abstract: A roller assembly for facilitating movement of a switch rail between two positions. In one embodiment, the roller assembly includes a frame adapted for attachment to the switch rail and having a pocket formed therein, and an elastomer assembly, at least a portion of which is slidably disposed within the pocket. The elastomer assembly includes a roller wheel and an elastomeric block. The roller wheel travels along the surface of a tie plate when the switch rail is moved between positions. The elastomeric block is adapted to compress under a load applied to the switch rail in the direction of the tie plate, causing the roller wheel to retract in the direction of the pocket. When the weight of a train is exerted on the roller assembly, the compression of the elastomeric block causes the train to ride fully on the rails, just as if the roller assembly were not present. When no weight is exerted on the roller assembly, the roller assembly assists the switch to move freely between positions.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2011Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignees: Eco-Production Vresova Spol.
