Tread Guard Rail Patents (Class 246/456)
  • Patent number: 8608116
Abstract: A structure and counter system for railroad switching, characterized by a base support plate with a lower flat surface which on its upper side includes a first flat section with two protruding hooking elements that hold the skid's inside tab on the rail where the wheels roll on, and also includes an outer section of greater thickness that defines a stopping device that ends on the border of the skid's outer tab within the same rail. This base plate includes a wall perpendicular to the upper surface, covering its width, with a flat internal surface adapted to receive a fixing plate that receives the outer side of a counter rail arranged over the first flat section and separated from the hooking elements; thus being parallel to this rail.

  • Patent number: 8556217
Abstract: A crossing panel includes a pair of intersecting rails, a pair of crossing line rails, a plurality of railroad ties supporting the crossing line rails such that the crossing line rails are angled upwardly from a base elevation toward the respective main line rail and terminating such that a tread bearing surface of each crossing line rail at its terminal end is at a height above the crown of the intersecting line rail, an external frog casting being aligned with and secured to the terminal ends of the crossing line rails and having an external frog tread bearing surface substantially above the crown of an intersecting line rail, and transitional guide castings disposed between the intersecting rails and respectively aligned with the crossing line rails. The transitional guide castings are substantially horizontal, and each has a crown maintained at a height sufficient to maintain a railcar wheel of a train wheel set above the intersecting line rails.

  • Patent number: 7137601
Abstract: A check rail arrangement for a switch or an intersection, the arrangement including a grooved rail (16) provided with a grooved rail head (14), a groove (18) and a lip (52), and a check rail (12) which is supported at least on the lip and is arranged by a fixing mechanism in such a way that it can be displaced in relation to the grooved rail. The aim of the invention is to be able to easily displace the check rail. To this end, a fish-plate block (40) extends from the grooved rail (16), the fish-plate block including a longitudinal groove (42) which extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the grooved rail and in which a slot pin (44) engages in an adjustable manner. The slot pin can be tightened by a screw (46) extending from the check rail (12).

  • Patent number: 5169064
Abstract: An adjustable switch point guard rail assembly for use adjacent the switch point of a railway switch. The adjustable guard rail assembly is comprised of a plurality of support chairs and an adjustable guard rail. The sdjustable guard rail includes a surface for engaging and laterally urging the wheels of rolling stock in a direction toward the centerline of the trackwork. Also disclosed is an apparatus for laterally adjusting and fastening the wheel engaging surface of the adjustable guard rail to a variety of positions toward or away from the switch point within a given range of lateral movement.

  • Patent number: 4386751
Abstract: A switch point guard for railroad track having a guard or deflector rail positioned to prevent flanges of railroad wheels from striking the switch point. The guard rail is carried on support members for rigid retention in a fixed, predetermined position relative to the track. By this invention the guard rail is carried by horizontally positioned guard rail plate means attached to the side of the guard rail. Apertures are defined in the rail plate means with chock plates positioned in the apertures. The chock plates each define an aperture off center in the direction perpendicular to the guard rail, with the support members defining attached projecting members occupying the off-center apertures. Accordingly, peripheral edges of the chock plates occupy different positions depending upon which side of the chock plates faces toward the rail track. Thus the predetermined position of the guard rail can be varied.
