Publication number: 20080093508Abstract: A tie system having at least one tie with a generally hollow, unitary body. The tie body is preferably made from a metal such as, but not limited to, steel. The tie is created as a unitary body and may be cast in its final form, however, in a preferred embodiment, the body is created as a tube which is then deformed into the final shape. Once the tube has the desired shape, a plurality of openings are cut therein. Components of the switch machine are then disposed within the tie body.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2006Publication date: April 24, 2008Applicant: Union Switch & Signal, Inc.Inventors: Kevin McQuistian, Edward E. Patent number: 7309050Abstract: A grooved rail core piece including a core piece intersection area formed by intersecting grooves as an overflow area. The core piece has two construction profiles with interconnected outer fishing surfaces (22,24) extending in a longitudinal direction. In order to enable the intersection area of the core piece to be renewed in a simple manner, the intersection-point area of the core piece includes an interchangeable insert (36) which is arranged in a recess in an at least positive fit, the recess being defined by the sections of the construction profiles and by the sections of the lining parts (30,32) disposed in the outer fishing surfaces (22, 24), and the insert is fixed by means of at least two wedge elements (38, 40) which can be clamped in the lining parts. The lining parts and the construction profiles are connected by means of at least one clamping element protruding there through in a non-positive fit.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2004Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignees: BWG GmbH & Co., KG, VAE GmbHInventors: Fridbert Heinze, Thomas Christ, Torsten Reck

Patent number: 7137601Abstract: A check rail arrangement for a switch or an intersection, the arrangement including a grooved rail (16) provided with a grooved rail head (14), a groove (18) and a lip (52), and a check rail (12) which is supported at least on the lip and is arranged by a fixing mechanism in such a way that it can be displaced in relation to the grooved rail. The aim of the invention is to be able to easily displace the check rail. To this end, a fish-plate block (40) extends from the grooved rail (16), the fish-plate block including a longitudinal groove (42) which extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction of the grooved rail and in which a slot pin (44) engages in an adjustable manner. The slot pin can be tightened by a screw (46) extending from the check rail (12).Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2003Date of Patent: November 21, 2006Assignees: BWG GmbH & Co. Patent number: 5845881Abstract: A railroad trackwork intersection assembly such as a crossing intersection or a turnout intersection is provided with at least one flange-bearing frog subassembly which has railcar wheel flangeways of uniform depth throughout the frog planform that co-operate with trackwork traffic rails, with easer subassemblies that are positioned exterior to but abut the frog subassembly, that have sloping flange support surfaces, and that may be removed from or adjusted in the assembly without moving or adjusting either the frog subassembly or the co-operating trackwork traffic rails.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1997Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: ABC Rail Products CorporationInventors: Keith Young, Stephen R. Patent number: 5743496Abstract: A railroad frog crossing bolt and nut is provided for clamping railroad rail sections together. The bolt is provided with a head which has a radiused portion which is adapted to be received in a countersink area in either a beveled washer or a D-bar. The inner end of the nut is also radiused which is adapted to be received in a countersink area formed in a beveled washer or D-bar.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Upcor, Inc.Inventor: Samuel G. Atkinson, Jr.

Patent number: 5531409Abstract: A bolted rail railroad frog designed to support a railroad wheel to roll through the frog on its flange rather than requiring its tread to jump across a flangeway gap. The frog is comprised of paired rail sections with a flangeway filler bar disposed therebetween to define a flangeway for the railroad wheel. Each flangeway filler bar has a ramped upper surface disposed to engage the wheel flange. Transition from the wheel riding on its tread to riding on its flange is accomplished by ramping both ends of the flangeway filler bars. When the wheel flange encounters the ramp it gradually lifts the wheel till the tread is clear of the top of rail and continues to carry the wheel over the flangeway gap and then rolls down the other ramp on the flange until the tread again is rolling on the top of the rail.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 5522570Abstract: Rail construction including laterally adjacent frog sections with guard rails outwardly spaced to each side thereof by interposed liners. The components are interconnected by a transverse tightened bolt with vertical misalignment precluded by either nesting projections on adjacent abutting faces of the components or by a rigid, preformed sleeve press-fit within the bore receiving the bolt, the sleeve extending through the frog sections and at least partially through the liners.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1995Date of Patent: June 4, 1996Assignee: BWG Butzbacher Weichenbau GmbHInventors: Sebastian Benenowski, Hubertus Hohne, Alfred Kais, Erich Nuding

Patent number: 5393019Abstract: An improved railroad turnout frog with a continuous running surface is provided. The frog provides for continuous running of the rolling stock and includes a mobile point with a triangular shape. The mobile point is located in a portion of the frog which would be void and otherwise provide no structural support.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1994Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Inventor: Arturo A.
