Ground Inserted Patents (Class 248/156)
  • Patent number: 4858876
Abstract: A post and ground support is illustrated utilizing a helical member forming an auger for digging the ground support into the earth, and easily removing the ground support from the ground and reusing said support in another location. The ground support includes a ground engaging stabilizing member affording resistance to a force having a component at right angles to the post, and a breakaway connection is provided between the ground support member and the post, together with a connection for retaining the post in a position near the ground after separation therefrom. The breakaway connection positions the post upon the ground support above the ground and separates in response to a force coming from any direction about the post. A shear pin having longitudinally flat surfaces extending circumferentially thereabout prevents turning of the post with respect to the ground support and a groove extending about said flat surfaces assure uniformity of shearing from any direction in which the force is applied.

Abstract: A golf bag support formed from a tubular housing which may be attached either to the interior or exterior of a golf bag. A spike section is received within the lower end of the housing, where it may be held in a normally retracted position. A wing section abuts the spike section and extends outside the housing through an open-ended longitudinal slot formed in the end of the housing. Supported by the wing section is a pedal section, which may be depressed to drive the wing and spike sections into the ground, in order to maintain the housing and attached golf bag in an upright position. When the wing and spike sections are removed from the ground a biasing spring anchored within the housing returns the spike section to its normally retracted position within the housing. Abstract: An adjustable support, e.g. for campfire cooking comprises a first member or rod (1) having an angled slot (2) at the upper end and a spiked opposite end for vertical mounting in the earth near a campfire (12); a second removable extension handle member (7) has a tapered slot (5) for insertion into the first member slot (2) and a protruding extension arm and hook (8) on which to hang swing-handled cooking containers, with a wooden handle (6) therebetween such that the said containers can be lowered or raised by adjusting slot (5) in slot (2) or turned to or from the fire by swiveling peg (1) in the ground, or lifted free of slot (2) for remotely carrying hot foodstuffs. Furthermore, said peg (1) has feet such that it can alternatively be leaned against and supported by rocks, enabling said slot (5) to be inserted and adjusted to raise or lower swing-handled containers relative to campfire (12); said second member is removable for the safety and convenience of campfire cooking.

  • Patent number: 4511179
Abstract: A chair which is fixed in a single location yet which may be selectively positioned to face any direction includes a seat member, a back member, and two or three legs, a first leg of which is structured to provide an approximately vertical pivot axis disposed at the rear of the chair midway between its sides. A cross member secured perpendicular to the first leg proximate the upper edge of the seat back defines a horizontal axis about which the chair can be pivoted. Arm rests provide grip means disposed toward the front of the chair at a position which gives the user a mechanical advantage so as to easily effect simultaneous pivotal movement about the horizontal and vertical pivot axes. Lightweight in construction, the chair can be readily positioned by the user in any desired direction with an easily executed movement.

  • Patent number: 4497077
Abstract: This invention relates to portable wash stands, and in one embodiment comprises a base member with an upright support affixed to it and a basin support affixed to the top of the upright. The basin support comprises a semi-circular, upward facing member to the topmost ends of which is rotatably affixed a circular basin support. Means are provided to retainably position the circular basin support with respect to the semi-circular member. By this means, the basin support ring may be rotated into a co-planar orientation with respect to the semi-circular member for compact storage, or with the plane of the ring at right angles to the plane of the semi-circular member to support a circular wash basin with its center at the line of the axis of the upright.

  • Patent number: 4483506
Abstract: A signpost support sleeve comprises an upwardly open upright socket member having a horizontal footplate across the bottom, and a vertical spike on the underside of the footplate. A special unsetting tool is driven beneath the plate to apply a removing force directly to the sleeve. In the embodiment shown, the socket member has a square recess for a square post having a forwardly extending, cantilever cross arm to which an appropriate sign is fastened. The footplate is generally rectangular. It extends cantileverly forwardly and bears foot-like against the ground to keep the post from leaning forwardly under the weight of the cross arm and sign. The unsetting tool comprises an L-shaped lever having a tooth at one end engageable with one of three underside openings along the rear edge of the footplate. The openings on the underside of the footplate serve the dual function of providing drain openings for the socket member recess and providing a choice of seats for the tooth at the end of the unsetting tool.

  • Patent number: 4479628
Abstract: An integral one-piece fishing rod holder having a Y-shaped configuration formed by an elongated stake adapted to be inserted generally vertically into the ground and a pair of arms extending upwardly outwardly from a junction zone formed by the upper end of the stake and arms. An elongated vertically extending slot is formed in the junction zone of the Y-shaped holder for receiving and supporting a portion of a fishing rod therein. A curved passage is formed in the junction zone and extends partially along one of the arms and communicates with the elongated slot below the top of the slot. The passage and slot form a downwardly extending projection in the junction zone which retains the rod within the slot if a force is applied to the fishing rod when the rod is unattended. A curved notch is formed in the top edge of the junction zone to provide a casual support for the fishing rod when attended by a fisherman.

  • Patent number: 4461220
Abstract: A table includes a substantially vertical support member having a lower ground engaging portion and first and second leaves pivotally attached to each other and adjustably connected to the vertical support member. A support linkage supports the first and second leaves in an up position and pivotally connects the first and second leaves to the vertical support member such that the leaves are movable to a down position. When the leaves are in the down position, the support linkage and the support member are disposed within the same plane with the leaves adjacent the support on diametrically opposite sides forming a compact unit. Preferably, an article hanger is slidably attached to an upper end of the vertical support member such that the hanger's height is adjustable and is lockable at a determined height for hanging an article such as a lantern.

  • Patent number: 4454824
Abstract: The invention is a device used by beach goers which by means of an auger at the end of a relatively long shaft the beach goer is able to engage the auger deep into the sand to firmly anchor a locker container in the sand. The auger drive mechanism is such that when a drive member is pulled up through the container top and engaged with a padlock to secure the container shut, the drive member disengages from the main shaft so that it is impossible to rotate the shaft by rotating the container because it free-wheels. Thus only by unlocking the padlock and releasing the drive member/lid retainer can the shaft be rotated to disengage it from the sand.

  • Patent number: 4420158
Abstract: A portable sports field goal assembly and framework includes an elongated net with a peripheral rope frame that may be secured to portable end frames. The end frames are made up of at least two releasably interconnected support members that can be secured in upright positions along the ground surface by ground cup assemblies and by guy cord assemblies. Lengths of the rope frame may extend through openings along the support assemblies. The rope lengths are knotted to secure the net corners to the frames. The ground cup assemblies each include an upwardly open cup with a central opening in its bottom horizontal wall. The openings receive headed spikes that may be driven into the ground to secure the cup against the ground surface. The cups also include access openings that receive lengths of the rope frame to be looped over the headed ends of the spikes. The rope frame can thereby be secured by the spikes to the ground and the supporting general framework.
