Patent number: 10774641Abstract: A load bearing support includes a cylindrical drum. A top portion, a bottom portion, a tapered cylindrical sidewall extends between the top and bottom portions. A core member extends between the top and bottom portions, and a load-bearing material is disposed between the sidewall and the core member. An opening extends through the top portion of the drum to receive load-bearing material. Each of the top portion and the bottom portions has a reinforcing chime. The core member includes a lateral transfer zone defined at one or more points along a vertical axis of the core member. The lateral transfer zone distributes an axial load on the drum to the cylindrical sidewall. The cylindrical sidewall provides a radial expansion area for compression of the core member and the load-bearing material.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2017Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: MiconInventors: David A. Patent number: 10024021Abstract: An anchoring system using hollow piles connected with a cap, the hollow piles open at the top and closed at the bottom. A skirt extends from the cap. In use, the anchoring system is lowered to an ocean floor and a suction element removes water and ocean floor material from under the cap to lower the anchoring system into the ocean floor. Flexible walls at closed ends of the hollow piles may provide pressure differentials separating the undersea pressure to which the interiors of the hollow piles are exposed from air chambers at the closed ends of the piles at substantially lower pressures.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2017Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Inventor: Daniel I. Patent number: 8851805Abstract: A longitudinally yieldable support for underground roof support includes a first support section with a first elongate outer shell filled with a solid compressible filler material and a second support section filled with a second solid compressible filler material with a second elongate outer shell extending above the first elongate outer shell. The second support section has density that is greater than a density of the first solid compressible filler material. A pair of attachment members are coupled to the second elongate outer shell and are configured for lifting the second elongate outer shell relative to the first elongate outer shell and for securing the second elongate outer shell relative to the first elongate outer shell once lifted.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2012Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: Burrell Mining Products, Inc.Inventors: Michael T. Patent number: 8851804Abstract: A support for use in mines and other underground workings is provided comprising a flexible inflatable bag configured for receiving a pumpable load-bearing material. A reinforcing material is provided for supporting the bag when the bag is filled with the load-bearing material. The reinforcing material can include reinforcing plates, rings, bands or barrels positioned about the outer periphery of the bag. Alternatively, the support can be formed from a plurality of stackable barrels that are filled with load-bearing material but without the inflatable bag. The barrels can include internal reinforcing or cladding material at spaced locations along the barrels to define controlled deflection zones. According to another design, the support can be designed to be extensible. The support is inexpensive to transport, can be erected on-site and has a reinforced structure with residual yield strength. A method for supporting a mine or other underground workings is disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2011Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: MiconInventors: David A. Hussey, Stephen G. Patent number: 8628064Abstract: A multi-section pulling rod structure, comprising: a retractable pulling rod, a positioning piece, and a plug set. The retractable pulling rod includes a first socket, a second socket, and at least a third socket, sleeved and fixed onto each other through their ends of small diameters, with their bottom ends provided respectively with a first plug, a second plug, and at least a third plug. Positioning piece is disposed inside second socket, and a plurality of positioning holes are provided on positioning piece. A press rod controls action of first plug, and at the same time brings second plug and third plug into action, so as to make steel beads on each plug to position in or detach from holes of each socket, and control steel bead of second plug to position in one of selected positioning holes on positioning piece, hereby reaching the extended height with minute adjustments.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2012Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Inventor: Chen-Chuan Wu

Patent number: 7520697Abstract: A system and method for elevating a construction implement relative to a surface under construction includes erecting a support post having a generally hollow cavity on the surface under construction, such as a dam. A quantity of granular material is then dumped into the hollow cavity of the support post. The support post and, specifically, the construction implement, is then jacked to a desired height relative to the surface. A portion of the granular material is then permitted to disperse through and beneath the support post thereby creating a higher support structure on which the support post may then rest. This process may be repeated as the construction progresses and the surface is gradually raised.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2004Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: Rotec Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert F. Patent number: 6910834Abstract: A mine prop is comprised of an elongate tube having a slenderness ratio that would generally allow buckling or kneeling of the elongate tube when exposed to a sufficient axial force. A plurality of elongate support members having a length less than the elongate tube are attached to the tube to prevent buckling or kneeling of the elongate tube along the portion of the tube to which the elongate support members are attached. The portions of the tube that are unsupported by the elongate support members define one or more yieldable zones proximate at least one end of the tube. A compressible filler material is disposed within at least portion of the tube to support yielding in the yieldable zone.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2004Date of Patent: June 28, 2005Assignee: Burrell Mining Products, Inc.Inventors: William L. Patent number: 6394707Abstract: A mine roof support designed to extend vertically in a mine passageway. The support includes a containment structure having at least two telescoping containment members freely telescopically movable relative to one another, and a filler material introducible into the containment structure to form a column of material extending vertically in the passageway. Each containment member defines an interior space for receiving the filler material. The material is hardenable inside the containment structure to form a yieldable column whereby in the event of a mine convergence, the yieldable material yields while providing continued support and the telescoping containment members move freely relative to one another to permit such yielding without damage to the containment structure. A method of installing such a roof support is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1997Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: Jack Kennedy Metal Products & Buildings, Inc.Inventors: William R.
