Abstract: The present technology provides an extendable pillar having a lower section with a base column, and an upper section with an upper column. The base column includes a ratchet mechanism that operates with a fastener rod in the upper column. When the ratchet mechanism is in a locked position, the position of the upper section is fixed. When the ratchet mechanism is in an open position, the upper section can slide along the base column to extend or compress the length of the pillar. In certain embodiments, the upper column and the base column include friction connection mating components. The friction connection mating components cooperate to allow the upper section to slide along the base column when a sufficient force is applied to the upper section, while supporting the upper column at a fixed position when the force is removed.

An abutment is carried by at least one of the flexure fingers and includes a ramp which momentarily deflects the flexure finger radially inward upon insertion of the plastic guide through the mounting bracket aperture and a shoulder which engages with the mounting bracket to retain the plastic guide in the mounting bracket. A spring bears radially inward upon at least one of the flexure fingers to urge frictional engagement with the support post and establish the support post at a desired vertically adjusted position. The support post has a necked down central portion defining an upwardly facing stop face.

  • Patent number: 4278223
Abstract: This invention consists of combining a vertical stand with a standard hand held hair drier to convert the hand drier into a self supporting one. The stand is made into telescopic components for height adjustment; and the drier is attached to the stand, at its top, swivably, so that it can be adjusted to any required angle. The drier to stand attachment consists of a bow-shaped yoke with a bolt in each of its upright arms. The bolts are aligned to meet in the center of the yoke, and the end of each bolt is equipped with a curved plate which is free to rotate. The hand drier is clamped between the said curved plates at any required angle. The required friction between the telescopic components of the stand is provided by springs in compression contained in the inner component, pressing against the inner wall of the outer component.

  • Patent number: 4111484
Abstract: A headrest mounted above a dental chair backrest can readily be positioned by means of a headrest bar engaging a locking device affixed to the chair backrest. The locking device comprises a pair of resilient rubber surfaces or other high friction material surfaces which grip or contact the headrest bar to positively lock the headrest in position. By merely pushing the headrest to a more vertical position, the headrest bar is caused to lose contact with the gripping surfaces. A spring-loaded block is selectively disposed through each of the high friction surfaces to urge the bar in stronger contacting relation with said high friction surfaces in any operating position of the headrest, the blocks themselves also providing low friction surfaces against which the bar may ride when the headrest is being repositioned by initially pushing it to a more vertical position.

The locking device comprises a pair of resilient rubber surfaces which grip or contact the headrest bar to positively lock the headrest in position. By merely pushing the headrest to a more vertical position, the gripping or contacting of the rubber surfaces to the headrest bar is substantially eliminated to thus permit positioning of the headrest. Release of headrest will return it once again to a locked position.
