To adjust the tray horizontally, a pivotable tray top pivots relative to and above a non-pivoting tray top. A track within the tray provides a guide for movement of the pivotable tray top. A scissor lift coupled to an adjustment mechanism including either a hand crank or electric motor, may raise and lower the tray from a retracted position to an extended position, and be fixed at any intermediary position. The tray may be equipped to be lifted to any intermediary position without a hand crank or electric motor in a low-cost, yet effective scissor mechanism.

    Abstract: A pair of parallel moving surfaces, such as may be used for construction of an adjustable height table or seat are connected by a plurality of pantographs or “lazy tongs” mechanisms, each driven from a differentially threaded control rod. By suitable gearing connections among them, the pantographs are caused to operate in concert, and thus to keep the surfaces parallel as the distance between them is continuously varied. By appropriate mounting of the pantograph ends, the mechanisms are allowed to fold closer together at the minimum separation distance, thereby further minimizing this separation. The use of a set of springs assists in expansion from this minimized separation situation. The overall result is a simply operated mechanism for the continuous separation adjustment of a pair of parallel moving surfaces, together with the maximization of the range of separation adjustment between the two surfaces, concomitant with a minimization of the size and weight of the overall apparatus.

    Abstract: The motor vehicle seat of a motor vehicle comprises an underframe and a seat carrier that is height-adjustably connected to the underframe through rear oscillating cranks. A catch device is directly assigned to one of the two rear oscillating cranks. A non-rotatable tie bar joins the two rear oscillating cranks so that they are parallel when the vehicle seat is subjected to normal load. A retaining device has a sector gear firmly connected to the other one of the two rear oscillating cranks. An engaging piece which is movably disposed on the seat carrier or on the underframe, is provided with teeth devised for engagement with the sector gear and is disengaged from the sector gear as long as the vehicle seat is subjected to normal load. When the associated motor vehicle is subjected to a crash load an actuator is activated and causes the engaging piece to move into positive mesh with the sector gear.

A power unit, controlled by an electronic circuit, powers both the hydraulic rams of the scissor linkage assembly and the drive wheel assemblies.

The rear slide pin is arranged and constructed to engage a plurality of teeth formed in the rear guide slot when a large force is applied to the seat support in a direction to separate the seat support from the seat mount.
