Abstract: A reading rack for reading in a lying position, comprises a lamp stand, detachable book shelf, pen rack, folding legs, flexible metal arm, adjustable rod, folding arms, and clamps. The illuminating lamp is fixed on the lamp stand through a flexible metal arm, and the direction of the illuminating lamp can be adjusted to fit a reader's position. The detachable book shelf is attached on the rear of lamp stand by a sleeve ring. The flexible metal arm is fixed on a link rod, and can be freely bent; in addition, with the assistance of the adjustable rod, and clamps, the device can hold books or newspapers of different sizes.

Abstract: A book holder includes a mounting bracket having a plate member so that the book holder can be mounted on a flat supporting surface such as a wall or a bedframe. The book holder has a first lever arm pivotally connected to the mounting bracket and a second lever arm connected to the first lever arm for articulated movement with respect to the first arm. The first and second lever arms each have a guide slot and a lockable connector assembly is carried for sliding movement in the guide slot of each of the lever arms for interconnecting the first and second lever arms. A book support is connected to an end of the second lever arm for supporting reading material. The book holder includes bookframes mounted on a rod for movement toward and away from each other to support therebetween the reading material. The bookframes have platforms with legs extending at 120.degree. to each other so that a book may be supported therein with the pages at an angle of 120.degree. to one another.
Abstract: A portable utility desk for bed-patient and other uses including a flat, rectangular surface having a semicircular notch on one side thereof for adapting to the body of the user and providing for attachment of legs to the surface to be usable in a multiplicity of positions and further providing a book-holder structure for holding a book in stationary position on the flat surface.

Abstract: A desk unit mountable on a horizontal bed above an invalid reclining on the bed which enables the invalid to operate a typewriter fixed along a vertical inclined plane of the unit. Alternately, the desk may be employed for reading of material lying on a window over the invalid or for writing purposes. The unit is formed of an open frame fitted with fixed legs, with a panel hinged to the foot end of the frame, and adjustably fastened to vertical risers at the head end of the frame. The panel is fitted with a vertical shelf extending upwards away from a panel opening, with a base, to which a typewriter may be mounted, attachable to the panel shelf. A transparent window in the panel permits the user to read a book lying on the window.
