  • Patent number: 5405226
Abstract: An apparatus providing for the lockable securing of cargo load locks for the trucking industry is disclosed. Load locks comprising extendible, rigid elongate poles are installed laterally within trailers or vans to secure partial loads, and due to their portability are subject to loss or theft. The present invention is installable upon the exterior surface of the rear of a truck tractor cab, and comprises two opposed box-like structures having facing open sides. One of the structures is completely closed on all other sides when installed, requiring the end(s) of the load lock(s) to be inserted into the facing open side. The opposite structure includes an adjacent side opening into which the other end(s) of the load lock(s) may be inserted. The adjacent side opening may then be closed by a pivotable plate which locks in place with a single padlock to lock the end(s) of the load lock(s) within the two opposed boxes.

  • Patent number: 5361611
Abstract: A locking device used to secure a fishing rod and reel assembly to another object, such as an automobile, boat or the like. The locking device includes a hasp that closes around a fishing rod and the elongated neck of a fishing reel that extends from the fishing rod. The hasp includes apertures that can accept a padlock, wherein the padlock prevents the hasp from being removed from around the fishing rod and reel assembly. When closed around the fishing rod and reel assembly, the hasp independently engages both the fishing rod and the fishing reel. The hasp is mechanically attached to an object such as an automobile or boat, as such the hasp joins the fishing rod and reel assembly to the object, preventing the casual theft of the rod and reel assembly.

  • Patent number: 5067746
Abstract: An apparatus and a method of using the apparatus for supporting and immobilizing a trailer, especially a detachable trailer towed by a motor vehicle. The apparatus is attached to the trailer frame, one unit attached either in front, or behind each of the rear wheels. The apparatus is comprised of an elongated support or "jack" pivotally attached to the trailer frame and having a ground engaging foot. For travel, the support pivots to a horizontal position and is locked to the trailer frame. When the trailer is to be immobilized, the support pivots downward until it contacts the ground. The trailer is then rotated against the support by using the towing motor vehicle to tow the trailer forward against the support causing the support to pivot to its fully deployed vertical position perpendicular to the trailer frame. The trailer is now fully supported by the invention and the wheels of the trailer have been raised off the ground. The support can be locked in this vertical position.

Abstract: A lock and hold-down device to surround the top and sides of a battery in a motor vehicle to prevent the unauthorized removal of said battery. The lock and hold-down device includes a pair of identical brackets which are located at opposite sides of the battery and a crossbar which extends across the top of the battery between the side brackets. First ends of the side brackets are secured to a battery plate underneath the battery, and opposite ends of the side brackets have slots formed therein through which to receive the crossbar. One end of the crossbar is bent, and the opposite end of the crossbar is interconnected with a padlock so that the crossbar cannot be removed from the side brackets. A pair of manually adjustable fasteners are moved through holes in the crossbar and into engagement with respective top plates which underlie the crossbar. Holes are provided in the upper ends of the spaced plates which receive a demountable pin, said pin, when in place, being adapted to confine the chain bar within the transversely spaced plates. Resilient means such as rubber-like pads may be carried by the base plate and the channel to flexibly engage the saw motor housing and operator handle, respectively. The pin may be provided with a hole to receive a conventional pad lock to prevent removal of the saw from the device.

  • Patent number: 4454824
Abstract: The invention is a device used by beach goers which by means of an auger at the end of a relatively long shaft the beach goer is able to engage the auger deep into the sand to firmly anchor a locker container in the sand. The auger drive mechanism is such that when a drive member is pulled up through the container top and engaged with a padlock to secure the container shut, the drive member disengages from the main shaft so that it is impossible to rotate the shaft by rotating the container because it free-wheels. Thus only by unlocking the padlock and releasing the drive member/lid retainer can the shaft be rotated to disengage it from the sand.

  • Patent number: 4453692
Abstract: A security device for protecting a preselected article against theft, while nevertheless permitting the continued use of the protected article. The device includes: a desk top, table top, or the like for supporting the article; a frame structure fitted over and around the article, and, thereby, enclosing it; at least two anchor studs passing through the support and engaging the frame structure; and, a padlock for each anchor stud, with the shackle of each padlock passing through an opening in each stud, thereby preventing the removal of the frame structure. This security device is ideally suited for use as an anti-theft device in preventing the theft or unauthorized removal of easily removal peripheral computer equipment (e.g., a line printer, a video display terminal, and the like) which, while protected, must still be useable.

  • Patent number: 4325701
Abstract: A device is provided for use in conjunction with a marine vessel having an engine, a transmission connected to the engine and having a portion extending exteriorly of the boat and an out drive which is connected to the exteriorly extending portion of the transmission by removable fasteners. The device of the present invention prevents the unauthorized removal of the out drive from the transmission. The instant device comprises a housing having a top wall, a back wall and opposing side walls which extend downwardly from the top wall and on opposite sides thereof. The top wall of the housing includes a slot through which the mooring eye on the out drive is positioned and, in doing so, the threaded fasteners which connect the out drive to the transmission are inaccessibly positioned between the housing side walls. The housing itself is removably secured to the out drive by a padlock having its bolt extending through the mooring eye in order to permit removal of the out drive only by authorized personnel.

  • Patent number: 4248399
Abstract: The hook unit of the present invention is adapted to receive truck tire chains when not in use, but which at times must be carried on the truck so as to be available in case of need therefor. The hook units are preferably employed in a pair and mounted in adjacent but laterally spaced relation on the truck; the truck tire chains, when out of use, being engaged with, spanning between, and depending from such pair of hook units. Each hook unit includes a bracket affixed to the truck, and an upwardly opening hook having an extension leg detachably engaged with the bracket whereby the hook may be detached and stored in those seasons or under road conditions when trucks do not need or carry tire chains. In a modification of the hook unit and to prevent theft of the tire chains when hook-engaged, the extension leg of the hook is padlock-secured in the bracket, and a padlock-secured anti-theft bar spans the throat of the hook.

  • Patent number: 4198026
Abstract: A security device for safely storing firearms is disclosed. When a firearm is locked to the device, removal of the firearm from the device and removal of the device from the mounted structure are prevented. In the preferred embodiment, the device comprises a disc-like base member, two rods secured to the base member and extending therefrom, a disc-like covering member having two holes therein into which the two rods are inserted and from which they extend, and a hole in the end of one of the rods for receiving the shackle of a padlock. The firearm is secured to the device by placing it on the device with the trigger guard extending about the two rods and the trigger disposed between the two rods. The padlock is then attached to the device to prevent withdrawal of the firearm. The firearm can not be discharged since the trigger is prevented from moving by the two rods. The covering member prevents removal of the device from a wall or a locker, for example.
