  • Patent number: 10899045
Abstract: A soft lithography template or stamp is made by casting a polydimethysiloxane (PDMS) or other suitable elastomeric precursor onto a master pattern. The master pattern may be formed utilizing known micro-fabrication techniques. The PDMS template includes an inverse copy of the micro-structures on the master pattern, and can be placed into a mold used to prepare a carbon-fiber reinforced polymer composite part or other polymer molding systems where a matrix material passes through a fluid state during the cure process. The liquid resin material flows into the structures on the surface of the PDMS template and hardens during the curing cycle. After the part is released from the mold, the PDMS template can be peeled from the surface of the part to reveal the free standing micro structures which are a replica of the master pattern.

  • Patent number: 10648151
Abstract: Embodiments of a mold for making a retaining wall blocks are disclosed. The mold enables blocks to be made more quickly by enabling separation of each block from the mold housing when the block is cured sufficiently to enable separation. Once separated, the block can be permitted to fully cure away from the mold housing, while the mold housing is re-used to produce one or more other blocks. In one embodiment, among others, the mold has a movable bottom tray and a mold housing with at least one door. The mold housing has an opening designed to receive and introduce a fabrication material, such as concrete, into the cavity. Once a block is sufficiently cured, it is separated from the mold housing on the tray through the at least one door, and a new tray is inserted in the mold housing to make another block.

  • Patent number: 9359778
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and a forming system that reduces the hydrostatic pressure caused by casting freshly mixed concrete or other cementicious material into a vertical form. Reducing the hydrostatic pressure in forms enables relatively weak materials to be used as forms and minimizes the amount of bracing necessary to support the forms—both of which lead to lower construction costs. The method uses the highly thixotropic properties of no-slump or low-slump concrete which enable the concrete to be quickly changed from a semi-solid state to a liquid state and back to a semi-solid state numerous times before it hardens and without affecting the concrete's quality. Since hydrostatic pressure is only present when a liquid state exists, minimizing the amount of liquid concrete in vertical forms will also minimize the hydrostatic pressure present.

In another embodiment, the guide is resiliently urged outwardly from the plug to ride in a groove in the sidewall and the sidewall has an access port for prying free the plug from the receiver. A detent assembly comprised of notches on the plug and a detent carried by the receiver permit the plug to be selectively indexed. The insert can be mounted to or carried by an ejector pin having a head constructed and arranged to prevent rotation of the pin during mold operation.

Abstract: A multiple axes electroform is created by first locating a plurality of reflex or optical pins and a mold matrix that extends generally parallel to a first axis. A second mold matrix is created by loading into a fixture yet another set of pins that are generally parallel to a second axis. Electroforms are then made from each mold matrix. The resulting electroforms are then placed into yet another fixture whereby a third electroform is made. The third electroform is then placed into a final fixture where a master electroform is made which will be used in the tooling that is used to injection mold the final automotive lens assembly.

  • Patent number: 6120280
Abstract: A microprism master mold is formed from a plurality of flat sheets having two mutually parallel major surfaces. On one edge thereof, there is provided a series of V-shaped grooves having a bottom angle of about 90.degree. and roof-shaped projections having a vertical angle of about 90.degree., successively formed at a fixed repeating pitch and in a direction perpendicular to the major surfaces. The flat sheets are stacked so that the vertices of the roof-shaped projections formed on each flat sheet meet the bottoms of the V-shaped grooves formed on an adjacent flat sheet. The microprism master mold includes two or more different types of roof-shaped projections and the thickness of each flat sheet is equal to 0.6-2.0 times the length of the shorter oblique sides of the roof-shaped projections. The master mold is useful for production of cube-corner type retroreflectors characterized by microprism having high brightness and excellent wide-angle properties.
