  • Patent number: 5125617
Abstract: Forms for a cylindrical wall of poured concrete are made of plywood sheets nailed to horizontally-spaced beams, to which are clamped transversely arranged walers. The walers are assembled in strings and the string are in parallel spaced relationship. The walers in a string are hinged together at the sheet-facing side of the walers and at least one of two adjacent waler sections is curved. Screw assemblies are mounted in brackets located at the ends of the walers but on the sides facing away from the sheets, and are operable to push or pull the walers out of alignment so that they can be pulled or pushed into a ring shape and, in so doing, bend the sheets into generally cylindrical shapes. When the sheets are raised on end, with the beams disposed vertically they provide the inside and outside wall forms for receiving concrete, for example, poured between them to form an annular cylindrical wall for a tank or the like.

  • Patent number: 5009047
Abstract: A mold is provided for use in forming a chimney crown on the top of a chimney shell. The mold includes four side sections and four corner sections which are assembled together to form a complete unit. Each side section and each corner section has a base for contacting a top surface of the chimney shell and a band extending downwardly from the base for contacting an outer side surface of the chimney shell. Since part of this base extends outwardly beyond the chimney shell, the chimney crown overhangs the chimney shell preferably in a cantilever manner. Each side section of the mold also has an upper leg and a lower leg extending from the base at the outer end thereof. A hook trough extends inwardly from the upper leg into the chimney crown for anchoring the mold and for carrying water to drainage holes in the corner sections of the mold. A rope may be disposed in the hook trough to act as a wick for drawing excess moisture from the chimney crown.

  • Patent number: 4729541
Abstract: There is disclosed a formwork for round or polygonal constructions with a formwork face having an adjustable curvature or circumference. The formwork has a chain of booms which are spaced apart from the formwork face and are composed of individual boom portions. The boom portions can be pivoted relative to one another and can be fixed in selected angular positions when the adjustment of the formwork face is completed. The pivot axes for the boom portions are not located at the boom portions themselves but are transposed into the plane of the formwork face so that the formwork and the formwork face are adjusted in assembled condition of the chain of booms. The boom portions, which are spaced apart from the joint axes have couplings which are adapted to be detachably connected to one another and are disposed along arcs with centers of curvature on the respective joint axes. The couplings can include overlapping plates with openings through which locking keys can be inserted.

  • Patent number: 4562989
Abstract: A concrete forming system for constructing small diameter concrete columns with a refractory liner on the inside of the column wall. The present invention supports the inner and outer forms for the column wall on jacking frames which travel vertically on jacking beams attached to the wall. Loads created by plastic concrete are resisted by a system of radial supports which are attached to the inner concrete shaping forms and are supported by the jacking beams and jacking frames. After a portion of the column wall is poured, the next higher portion of the concrete column wall is formed by advancing the jacking frames and the concrete shaping forms upwardly along the jacking beams and reattaching lower sections of the jacking beams at the top of the jacking beams in order to provide a continuous track. The jacking frames and forms are raised on the jacking beams after a portion of the column wall is poured and the next higher portion of the concrete column wall is to be formed.

  • Patent number: 4076777
Abstract: Each one of a plurality of sector-shaped form members for a reinforced concrete or postensioned roof supported by a circumscribing wall, footing, columns or the like of a large building structure has an eyebolt located near its center of gravity to permit raising and lowering the form. The forms are lifted by this eye and successively positioned with their wide ends supported by brackets fastened to the circumscribing walls, footings, or columns and supported near their narrow ends by a central staging structure. If the building structure has circular walls or columns for supporting the roof, a pivoted station at the wide end of each form member provides a work platform for access to the bracket fastening means. When all of the forms are in place, their narrower ends define an opening which is centrally located. The forms are then covered by a layer of reinforced concrete. Holes are left in the roof at each eyebolt.
