Abstract: Void former assembly for casting facing elements for reinforced earth. Anchoring recesses are cast into its rear face so that earth-reinforcing strips can be looped through. The anchoring recesses are each formed as a loop channel having a convex inner surface and a concave outer surface, at least one of which has a radius of curvature which increases from the deepest part of the recess towards the rear face. A removable void former assembly and method for casting such facing elements are also described. Because of the varying radius of curvature of the surfaces of the channel, and the rotational and translational withdrawal path of the void formers, the channel can be cast deeper, and with openings which are closer together, than has hitherto been possible using removable void formers.

  • Patent number: 6978976
Abstract: An improved core for creating wax patterns of golf club heads is disclosed herein. The core includes a center core piece and several outer core pieces removably coupled to the center core piece by magnets embedded in each of the core pieces. The core further includes a pneumatic release system, including a manifold, to easily separate the center core piece from the outer core pieces and expel the center core piece from a wax pattern, thereby eliminating the need to pry and pull pieces out with a tool, which could damage the wax pattern of the golf club head.

  • Patent number: 6911165
Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a concrete slab in a substantially horizontal slip casting process method, concrete mix is fed into a mold through a delimited cross section moving progressively in the casting process so as to form a concrete product of a desired shape. Onto the surface of the casting bed (1) is placed a core (3, 9, 10, 11) capable of delimiting the cross section of the concrete product (5, 5?) so as to provide an opening or a provision for an opening in the bottom surface of the slab. A core is provided for obtaining an opening or a provision for an opening. The structure and/or material of the core is/are such that the core is capable of yielding in vertical direction. A core may also be a multipart core, the outer part of which becomes detached from the inner part of the core in conjunction with lifting off the concrete slab from the casting bed.

  • Patent number: 6767199
Abstract: A guide block assembly for aligning and retaining fiber bore forming pins and guide pin bore fanning pins in precise relation to each other during the molding of a multi-fiber ferrule includes a unitary member defining at least one fiber bore and at least one guide pin bore. Each fiber bore, and optionally each guide pin bore, is formed by creating a starter hole using a first electric discharge machining (EDM) wire and enlarging the starter hale using a second EDM wire. Each fiber bore has a length to diameter ratio of between approximately 3::1 to 10::1, more preferably between approximately 4::1 to 8::1, and most preferably approximately 6::1. The guide block assembly may further include a cavity behind the fiber bore and a front face that forms a non-rectilinear surface on the face of the female. The unitary block assembly contains fewer parts and is less expensive to manufacture.

  • Publication number: 20040135060
Abstract: A mold apparatus and method for manufacturing panels having, as desired, one or more areas of reduced material comprising a facing sheet and integrally attached cell forming walls extending in roughly perpendicular fashion from the facing sheet. Additionally, a method for molding panels, including large scale panels, from thermoplastic resins and other moldable materials requiring significantly less energy than other known molding methods, and providing for panels having one or more areas exhibiting continuous outer surfaces on all dimensions. A lower negative mold member has a plurality of upwardly facing positive standoffs defining interstitial channels into which thermoplastic resin or other moldable material is filled. A generally planar upper mold member is placed on the lower mold, and the combined mold assembly is then subjected to elevated heat and pressure, allowing said thermoplastic resin or other moldable material to melt within the interstitial spaces of the lower mold member.

  • Patent number: 6749171
Abstract: A rustication for preparing reveal bands in a precast panel surface. The rustication is made from a one piece elongate body of extruded foam and comprises an upper surface, a lower surface and laterally-spaced sidewall surfaces that extend between the upper and lower surfaces. The lower surface defines a base plane. One or more downward-extending edges that project below the lower surface base plane are included such that they can bend under the application of a load, such as when concrete is poured around it to form the precast panel. Under such a load, the edge scrapes along the top of a panel-forming surface so that an enhanced sealing engagement between the panel-forming surface and the rustication is effected. The rustication can further include a plurality of longitudinally-spaced apertures that extend from the upper surface to the lower surface to facilitate the securing of the rustication to the panel-forming surface, thereby precluding rustication shift once the concrete is pouted.

Abstract: An insert is provided for forming a void in precast concrete that includes a tube defined by a wall and having a plurality of formed, longitudinally spaced-apart ribs that project radially outwardly from an outer surface of the wall. A plurality of corresponding recesses are defined in an interior surface of the wall. A plurality of score lines are positioned between the ribs so that the tube may be adjusted in length to meet the particular requirements associated with a specific design of precast concrete. At least one removable cap is positioned in an open end of the tube so as to prevent concrete from entering the tube during casting. A method for forming a void within a precast concrete structure is also provided in which the tubular sleeve assembly is positioned within a form containing uncured concrete, and one or more of the score lines are cut so as to adjust the length of the tube.
