Abstract: A unitary, molded, concrete stabilizing base for refuse cans and the like, and method and apparatus for its manufacture are described. The base takes the form of a concrete annulus having a right-triangular cross section and an inner diameter dimensioned freely to receive a frusto-conical refuse can having a base diameter within a range of predetermined diameters. The inner cylindrical surface and the outer frusto-conical surface of the toroid smoothly are joined in a substantially rounded way. In use, and in the presence of lateral forces incident upon the installed refuse can, e.g. crosswinds, the base and the can cooperate by the impingement of their inner and outer surfaces to resist the tendency of the refuse can to tip and spill its contents. In a modification, the effective height of the base is increased by stacking the base atop a concrete annular platform of substantially equal diameters, thereby increasing further the range of refuse can base diameters that securely can be accommodated.
Abstract: A mold-forming cup has a frustoconical interior tapering in cross-sectional size from the top of the cup to the bottom. A metal master model is mounted generally centrally of the interior of the cup, whereupon the cup is packed with rubber mold material. The mold material is vulcanized and the resulting mold is cut into top and bottom sections such that the master model can be removed. The mold sections are placed back together and inserted into a retaining ring having a frustoconical interior of a size slightly smaller than the size of the interior of the mold-forming cup to accommodate for shrinkage of the mold during vulcanization. The mold is held in the retaining ring under pressure so as to be restrained on all sides during injection of wax into the central cavity of the mold to form a wax pattern of the same shape as the master model.
Abstract: A method of making a solid core locatable between a wheel rim and a tire fitted to the rim, includes introducing a foamable composition into a mould cavity having a substantially inflexible mould surface. The cavity is suitably shaped so that a core locatable between a wheel rim and a tire fitted to the rim can be moulded therein. The composition is allowed to foam, thereby to fill the mould cavity. Air and excess composition is allowed to vent from the cavity via an elongate vent slit extending along a major portion of the cavity. The foamed core thus moulded in the cavity is removed from the cavity on the composition having set at least partially.

A base mold part seats against the outboard face of the metal wheel in the closed condition of the mold and has a mold cavity surface to provide an ornamental configuration for the outboard face of the plastic body of the composite wheel. A clamp seats against the inboard face of the middle mold part to urge the middle part into sealing engagement with the base mold part. The mold parts are axially separable from one another to open the molding apparatus to clear the middle mold part from said clamp and base mold parts. The clamp includes a funnel adapted for registry with a liquid reaction mixture injection nozzle coupled with injecting mixing apparatus. The funnel has a nozzle passage registering with a pour opening in the disc in the closed condition of the mold.

The gasket is preferably integrally molded from an elastomeric material such as urethane onto a substantially transparent window panel. The gasket and window assembly can then be mounted and secured directly to vehicle body panel opening, for example, with adhesives, thereby eliminating the need for discrete mechanical fasteners. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, an improved aftermixer and gating apparatus includes a mixing body in which a flowable multi-constituent molding material is separated into a number of generally serpentine mixing passageways and reunited in a common mixing cavity before being conveyed through a fan-gate passageway to the mold cavity.

Abstract: The process provides for depositing, on a non-adhesive support, a thread of a fluid material for gasket manufacture from a nozzle that is displaced above the support along a path coinciding with the gasket layout, with subsequent curing of the fluid material. According to the invention, a stiff, wirelike reinforcement is placed on the support before deposition, the reinforcement corresponding in shape to the outline of the gasket that is to be manufactured, and having an adhesive surface with respect to the fluid material of the gasket, so that the subsequently deposited thread of fluid material incorporates the reinforcement and becomes bonded to it. The invention also relates to the product obtained by the process.
Abstract: A thread of a fluid material for gasket manufacture is deposited onto a non-planar, non-adhesive support sheet (12) from a nozzle (22) that is displaced above the support along a path corresponding to the outline of the gasket, with subsequent curing of the fluid material. The support sheet is prepared by pressing sheet material into a tridimensional shape whereby its surface contains the non-planar outline of the gasket to be manufactured; the shaped support is positioned with respect to a nozzle carried by a manipulator (20) capable of being controlled to move the nozzle with respect to the support along three independent spatial coordinates; and the nozzle is fed with said fluid material while being displaced along said non-planar outline. Preferably, the support sheet is kept flattened by vacuum against an underlying, matching surface.

Abstract: A mold for manufacturing an annular object of elastic material such as a sealing ring having a reinforcing element which is completely or partially embedded therein, comprising support surfaces on pin members supported by the mold and projecting into the mold cavity which support and retain the reinforcing element in the correct position within the mold during injection of the elastic material to be formed within the mold cavity. The pin and the mold cavity have opposing surfaces which guide the inserted reinforcing element into the correct position prior to injection of the elastic material. The mold is made in separate parts so that the parts can be removed after the elastic material has set, to open the cavity for removal of the finished product with the reinforcing element embedded therein.
Abstract: A mould used for making a racket frame comprises an upper mould piece, a lower mould piece and an intermediate mould piece which cooperate to form a cavity that imparts a racket frame shape with the parting line of the mould pieces lying apart from a plane X-X that passes through stringing holes which will be drilled in the frame formed in the mould, thereby avoiding the performing of the deflashing operation at the portion near the stringing holes and preventing the damage of the fiber reinforcement for the string at that portion.
Abstract: The apparatus consists of a vessel that is transparent to microwaves, an inner coating of material that is heated by microwaves and a coating inside that that will reflect microwaves. In use the user allows his mold substance to set in the ordinary way. When he desires to release his moldable from the molded substance he applies microwaves to the outside of the vessel. The waves pass through the outer transparent wall and heat the inner coating. Conductivity of heat causes the surface of the molded object to be heated, to liquefy and release from the mold. The innermost layer of reflective substance prevents the microwaves from penetrating into the molded object and heating the whole molded object. What is new is an apparatus that will permit the user to quickly and conveniently release a molded object from a mold without any risk that he will heat and destroy portions of the molded object.

Abstract: A method for the manufacture of formed edible products from moist edible pieces. Pneumatic suction draws the pieces into a mold or die cavity. A binder such as a gel solution is applied to the pieces in the cavity to cause adherence between the pieces. Thereafter contact with a chilled surface serves to attach the formed mass to the surface. The die is then withdrawn, leaving the form attached to the chilled surface. The preferred source material is onion pieces, with the method being carried out to produce onion rings. Also apparatus for carrying out the method and products resulting therefrom.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method of manufacture of valve seats which comprises forming a series of vertically stacked molds each having at least one mold cavity with a configuration approximating that of a ring-shaped valve seat insert blank. After the molds are formed, they are stacked and the cavities are connected by a common molten metal passageway in such a way that the passageway connects with an axially facing outer surface of each mold cavity to provide a lap gating relationship. Molten metal is then poured into the lap gated passageway to form a series of valve seat insert blanks each having a gate formed on an axially outer face. The blanks are then removed from the molds. Various grinding operations are then applied to the blanks and the axially outer-facing surfaces of the blanks are ground to remove the gates to form valve seats for use in internal combustion engines.
