    Abstract: A device for exercising a living hinge of an article and/or closing a lid of a cap while the article or cap is in a mold for forming the article or cap. The device includes a finger which slides between the mold sections, and, in the process, engages a portion of the article or the lid, rotates the portion or lid about the hinge, and in the case of the cap, snaps the lid shut. In an alternate preferred embodiment, when the finger reaches a predetermined point it pivots toward the female mold section to snap the lid tightly shut.

    Abstract: Method for slip casting toilet bowls and as mould for casting ceramic material in slip form, including a compartment having an air impermeable wall and arranged, in the casting position of the mould, so that when the mould is filled with slip air is trapped in the compartment. The compartment is located at a region where casting is not to occur and the trapped air not only achieves this but also prevents the surface of the compartment from becoming wetted, thereby making subsequent cleaning easier. The compartment may be formed either in a plaster mould part and its surface rendered air impermeable, or in a separate part made of air impermeable material, and assembled with the plaster mould parts. The mould is particularly suitable for casting a water-closet bowl, the compartment being located at the region where the open top of the bowl is formed.

    Abstract: A collapsible mold core comprises an inner core member defining opposed first and second ends. The inner core member tapers transversely to a reduced diameter from the first to the second end. A plurality of outer core members are attached to the lateral exterior of the inner core member in longitudinally slidable relation to it between first and second sliding positions. The outer core members define first and second ends corresponding in position to the first and second ends of the inner core member, with the outer core members tapering inwardly in transverse dimension from their second to their first ends to provide an opposite taper to that of the inner core member. The mold core is of lesser transverse diameter in the second sliding position than in the first sliding position. This permits the molding of an object such as a straight-walled bucket having an inwardly-projecting lip about the mold core while it occupies the first sliding position.

Each of the concave end faces of the inner mold part may also be provided with an island-shaped sharp edged projection aligned with and engaging in the closed position of the mold a corresponding projection on the inner mold part of the other mold half for forming a grip opening in the bottle.

The pivotable members are adapted to occupy their first pivoting position while the mold assemblies close, and to pivot into the second, open pivoting position upon opening of the mold assembly and removal of the molded part to facilitate removal of the stop boss.

    Abstract: The following specification describes a paint can mold in which a pair of concentric ring members and cores at diametrically opposed positions create concentric mold cavities for forming projecting bushings on the pail, each having a concentric handle bearing. The plastic for forming each bearing and a handle interconnecting the bearings passes through a gate in each ring member. Withdrawal of the ring member severs the plastic in the gate from between the bushing and bearing so that the handle is free to rotate on the bushings. Means are provided to prevent disassembly of the handle from the can.

    Abstract: The following specification describes a stop boss formed on the handle of a pair by means of a pair of slides located behind a skirt wall of the pail with the handle passing through a slot in the skirt wall, which is closed by a flange wall formed by the slides. The slides are movably carried in guides by a ring member and are received in a recess of another ring member which conventionally forms the annular pail wall. The guides enable the slides to move laterally toward each other in response to downward movement of the carrying ring member, to define the cavities for forming the stop boss and the flange wall closing the skirt wall slot. On completion of the mold cycle and upward movement of the ring member carrying the slides, the guides move the slides laterally apart to release the stop boss and the flange wall. The slides are then moved from between the skirt and pail walls to enable the pail to be released from the mold.

    Abstract: A core for the injection molding of plastic articles having internal threads, provides a means for readily releasing the article from the mold. The core has a non-rotating, water-cooled center section to hold the molded article against rotary motion and a driven, water-cooled ring section for molding threads in the article. Rotation of the ring section coupled with the holding action of the stationary center section releases the molded thread and ejects the article from the core by the axial force of the thread of the core bearing against the molded thread of the article.
