A flat extends chordally across the end portion of the rod body interrupting the external thread. The plastic, of which the plunger rod is molded, is gated into the mold for the plunger rod at the flat that extends across the rod end portion, leaving a gate mark or vestige on the flat. Gating of the plastic material into the portion of the mold that forms the threaded end portion of the plunger rod achieves improved flow and improved filling of the external thread, while employing a simple and economical mold construction. The gate vestige does not interfere with threading of the plunger rod end portion into the plunger tip.

Abstract: A mold for a plastic grip of a portable tool has two halves with depressions forming the negative. The base body has a top grip extending, when mounted, across the topside of the housing perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the tool and a lateral grip connected to the top grip extending therefrom, when mounted, laterally downwardly. The top grip has a first end and the lateral grip has a second end for connecting to the housing. Top and lateral grips have identical elliptical cross-sections rotated to one another in the circumferential direction of the grip by an angle of rotation. Cross-sections have a first diameter larger than a second diameter. Mold depressions have recesses for molding elongate, raised portions in the longitudinal direction. Recesses are adjacent circumferentially and extend spirally. Separation surfaces of mold halves are positioned in a longitudinal center plane of a recess adjacent the first diameter.

  • Patent number: 6663347
Abstract: A compressor wheel is re-designed to permit die inserts (20), which occupy the air passage and define the blades (4, 5) during a process of forming a wax pattern (21) of a compressor wheel, to be pulled without being impeded by the blades. This modified blade design enables the automated production of wax patterns (21) using simplified tooling. These wax patterns (21) can be used in a large-scale investment casting process, and produce an economical cast titanium compressor wheel which performs aerodynamically at high boost pressure/RPM. The compressor wheel improves low cycle fatigue, withstands high temperatures and temperature changes, and permits operation at high boost pressure ratio while, on the other hand, having low weight, low inertial drag, and high responsiveness.

  • Patent number: 6592797
Abstract: The invention generally discloses an apparatus and method for removing threaded, molded articles from an injection mold. A cam system and linear drive/following gear mechanism engages a finely resolved retraction of a threaded mold core, under substantially full mold clamp pressure, prior to rotational disengagement of the core from the molded article. The invention also describes a system for the reduction of galling that may otherwise occur when mold components experience relative rotation with respect to each other. Moreover, the invention describes an apparatus and method for substantially reducing periodic maintenance checks and interruptions in production.

  • Patent number: 6506330
Abstract: A molding apparatus and method of injection, compression or otherwise molding a closure having projections extending inwardly from a skirt of the closure includes a plurality of slides for movement obliquely with respect to an inner mold core. A ring contacts the closure and surrounds the slides. Movement of the ring relative to the mold core results in the movement of the closure which moves the slides to disengage recesses on the slides. The recesses are used to form the projections on the closure. The ring contacts the closure and advances the closure away from the mold core. The projections seated within the recesses on the slides move the slides obliquely relative to the mold core and ultimately disengage the recesses from the projections thereby releasing the closure from the mold. The movement of the slides is independent from the movement of the ring so that complicated mechanisms for movement of the slides are not required according to this invention.

  • Patent number: 6426030
Abstract: A method of making a closure for a container is accomplished by providing a unitary mold with a mold cavity therein having vertically extending ribs and a rotatable and linearly movable threaded core element is received within the cavity. A formable plastic material is placed within the cavity and the core element is received within the cavity. Alternatively, the formable plastic material may be injected into the mold cavity. Upon contacting the formable plastic material with the core element the plastic material is forced around the outer surface of the core element and the inner surface of the cavity forming a closure with an internal thread and externally extending vertical ribs. The closure and the core element are backed out of the cavity wherein the core element is moved linearly and rotatably, but rotation of the closure is prevented.
