  • Patent number: 5223158
Abstract: An apparatus for casting polymer threads (32) in a nut cavity (14) complementary to the threads (44) of a casting screw (42) to minimize the formation of air pockets and air bubbles in the polymer threads. The cavity (14) of the nut (12) has a diameter larger than the diameter of the casting screw (42). The threads (32) of the nut (12) are formed in a polymer (30) which is dispensed into the nut cavity (14) and which cures around the threads (44) of the casting screw (42) after the screw is inserted into the cavity of the nut. The nut casting apparatus (10) includes support member (54) for closing the bottom of the cavity (14), and for containing the polymer (30) therein.

When the end closure is frangible through having score lines formed in the main panel, the pull ring is connected by a tenon adjacent a score point, which is the junction of two score lines and inside of the inner diameter of the pull ring, so that pulling on the pull ring, which is substantially parallel to the main panel, starts rupturing of the two score lines. The end closure also may be a plug type having a friction fit within a container whereby there are no score lines; the pull ring is still used to remove the end closure from the open end of the container. Connected to the tamper indicating band and depending upwardly and inwardly therefrom are a plurality of tabs adapted to cooperate with an annular bead provided on a container finish. The tabs are molded in their upwardly and inwardly extending orientation so that free ends of the tabs terminate radially inwardly from an inner surface of the upper skirt portion. A two-piece core is used to form the inner surfaces of the upper skirt portion and the tamper indicating band. The tabs, in their as-molded orientation, are positioned to interfere with the core during removal of the closure therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4740344
Abstract: The invention comprises a method and apparatus wherein an insert, preferably made of plastic and preferably allowing a melt-on bonding with the tubes and whose floor has a traversing opening for each tube, is inserted into the first part of the injection mold (top mold or bottom mold) as a positioning element for the tubes in such a manner that the insert is at least partially locked or secured into the first part of the injection mold. A tube is then placed in each opening of the insert. A mandrel is then placed in each tube, whereupon the injection mold is locked in such a manner that, if necessary, the mandrels are locked into the second part of the injection mold (bottom mold or top mold). A molten thermoplastic material is then injected, via a sprue provided in the injection mold, into a cavity formed by the injection mold, the insert and the tube ends.

  • Patent number: 4731014
Abstract: A mold, typically an injection mold, comprises a cavity member and a core member relatively movable between open and closed positions to define a first parting line and a molding chamber between the core and cavity members in the closed position. A sprue aperture is provided, communicating with the molding chamber to provide molding compound to the chamber. In accordance with this invention the cavity member defines forward and rearward portions movable between open and closed positions and proportioned whereby objects molded in the molding chamber can be removed from between the forward and rear portions when the cavity member is in its open position.

  • Patent number: 4717113
Abstract: An injection molding system is provided with a plurality of wall segments which are displaceable substantially radially for forming a substantially continuous wall which forms an internal wall of a hollow region which is intended to be filled with molten molding material. In a preferred embodiment, the wall segments are urged into sliding communication with one another and sealable engagement with a further wall portion by operation of an actuator assembly which is provided with canted pins which cause the wall segments to be moved radially inwardly and outwardly in response to orthogonal displacement of the actuator assembly. The invention is therefore particularly suited for forming molded articles having hollow interiors and/or internally ribbed portions. In an embodiment where a slot is desired in the molded article, a slot core is arranged to communicate with the molten molding material, so as to form the slot, and an ejection mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4687434
Abstract: The molding apparatus of this invention produces a one-piece molded unit that provides a two-piece plastic fastener whereof one piece is a grommet having a head with a flat front surface and forwardly projecting legs defining a sidewardly and forwardly opening slot, and the other piece is a pin receivable through the head and forwardly slidable in the slot to an operative position holding the front ends of the legs flexingly diverged. As molded, a front end portion of the pin is connected with the head by a frangible flashing. A forwardly opening radially extending groove in the front of the head, opening from one side of the slot, defines a substantially flat forwardly facing groove surface that is rearwardly offset from and parallel to the front surface of the head and is flush with the front end surface of the pin. The molding apparatus comprises two die members, each having a flat surface to which opens a cavity defining one longitudinally extending half of the unit that includes a half of each leg.

  • Patent number: 4618121
Abstract: A mold for forming a plastic cap and removing a cap from such a mold. The mold comprises female and male members which, together, form a mold cavity in which the cap is formed. The female member includes an upper assembly and a plurality of cams. The cams have radial protrusions engaging the male member to form annular recesses in the cap. The cap is removed from the mold by moving the upper assembly of the female member axially and the cams thereof radially away from the cap, and then removing the cap itself from the male member of the mold. Preferably the cap is shrunk onto the male member to develop a space between the cap and the female member of the mold prior to moving the female member away from the cap.

  • Patent number: 4610621
Abstract: This relates to a mold for forming closure caps and like cap-like members having a peripheral body with internal threads. The mold is constructed to have an irregular parting line with the result that a major part of the body of the closure cap may be externally defined by that mold member which is moved to an out-of-the-way position when the mold is opened, leaving the injection molded closure cap body free for radial expansion and thus permissible stripping of the closure cap from the core about which it is molded. This construction eliminates the customary ejector sleeve and permits the base mold member to function as an ejector block for directly stripping the molded closure cap from the core. This construction permits mating tapered surfaces on the base mold member and the core which form a seal and do not have relative sliding contact, thereby eliminating previous undesired wear surfaces.
